Members Brian May
I'm most definitely a humbucker man first n foremost...so if I have a gun to my head and have to choose then that's my pick! That said I do own several guitars with single coils as well as humbuckers.....so I like both. But with single coils I have to have the hotter more middy ones like Texas Specials for example - I can't stand scooped thin gutless single coils at least in the bridge position there's no body to the sound and it irritates me...but a solid beefy sounding single coil is very nice. Of course this should show that I'm a rocker at heart! But I love the tones of Knopfler, SRV, Blackmore etc.

Members Special B
I prefer singlecoils. I prefer the detail and nuances of a singlecoil to the power of a humbucker. I play with my fingers/nails, and with singlecoils my fingers each sound different due to different nail shapes. On humbuckers, each finger sounds more similar and less nuance is captured. Obviously this is a generalization and not all pickups are alike. To clarify, P90s are a type of soapbar singlecoil. P90 is a specific model of pickup, not a type of pickup. Saying P90 is like saying Texas Special. It's a model name, not a type. The poll should list soapbar instead of P90.
Members Task
Single coil articulation clean or overdriven, bell tones and chime. You can buy noisefree. I use great ones, but won't drop the name since this thread is non brand specific.
Members tartanphantom
Prefer Dynasonic single coils, but can easily live with Filtertron or Powertron humbuckers. Like P90's too-- after all, they are single coils.

Members wankdeplank
Is there a bad pickup choice. Variety is the spice of life or so they say. The only variants I don't own are Filtertron types, active types and mini humbucker types. I like the vintage jangly tones (Beatles, Stones, Byrds) so I sometimes think I can get the coolest tones out of a pair of toaster clones (aftermarket) I have in an old 60's Harmony H19 (Jag style). I think passive hummers are the most versatile and have the broadest range of possible variants. (For those that haven't tried PAF boutiques with mismatched coils and scatter winding, you're missing out on a 3D experience.) For me (qualified), P90s are the least versatile, though they sure do sound cool for rock styles. And boy do I like Strat singles cause they also deliver those vintage tones I crave the most. Members Emory
TV Jones classic filtertrons are best of all worlds.... Also developing appreciation of G&L zee coils on my Comanche. That single coil slink without being skinny, unless you want them to be.
Members 1001gear
Single coils. Even cheap Asian winds can sound authentic and good to boot. I do hate hum though so I gotta say noiseless. Those have gotten a lot better lately.
Members Bucksstudent
They all have their place. The P90s in my Casino sound so good that I overlook the noise. I couldn't say the same for my past Strats and Teles. Humbuckers give me the sound in my head and compliment my style the best. I mean, I change my approach with my Casino because it's not the same instrument as my Les Paul, but I enter my comfort zone with the LP.

Members badpenguin
I have always played hums, and love them. Singles have their place, along with P90's, which I happen to love also. but for versatility, tone, drive, and everything else a good pickup has, I prefer hums. Besides, some wiring tricks can give you the singles and P90ish tones.
Members Silver Hand
"Full Range Humbuckers" No one else in world has the same favorite pickup type as me! :-D I've always been torn between single coils and humbuckers, so I learned how to build pickups and made a bunch of prototypes until I finally got the sound out of a pickup I wanted and hum cancelling as well. They look like Fender "Wide Range" pickups, hence why I named them "Full Range" pickups, but they sound more like a single coil than a Wide Range and also have normal humbucker spacing. I guess technically they are "humbuckers" since they cancel hum, but they also only have 6 pole pieces so they don't have much of the phase cancellation that is part of the typical humbucker sound.
