Members RogueGnome Posted December 6, 2016 Members Posted December 6, 2016 The Who sound like a facsimile of everything that was great about that era of rock and pop. Kind of like the English Monkees. I just don't get their music as any kind of cultural touchstone. Question for you, gubu. Do you play electric guitar? Drums?
Members SteinbergerHack Posted December 6, 2016 Members Posted December 6, 2016 I forgot just how much I don't like either of these bands:
Members Grumpy_Polecat Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 Journey. I didn't mind the trip but I didn't know I had to share a seat with Steve Perry incessantly whining about his lost girlfriend, Sherry.
Members Grumpy_Polecat Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 Try them BEFORE they were overrun by Buckingham/Nicks.

Members nedezero1 Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 I forgot just how much I don't like either of these bands: I did like QR with RR.
Members Grumpy_Polecat Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 I already slagged on Steve Perry but I couldn't resist the opportunity to repeat it. This time however I will put him in good company with Kevin Cronin and Dennis DeYoung, who suck equally and together make up a sizable amount of what was wrong with '70s music (other than the Brothers Gibb).
Members DonK Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 I've heard a lot of them. Some are beyond terrible, but some are really excellent. What I can't stand is when the "excellent" ones go into 20 minutes of scatting at the end of a song. And no, I'm not exaggerating. I liked a lot of the stuff from the 90's, especially the Maranatha and similar stuff. The late 90's/early 2000's ushered in the Passion Worship era, which was hit or miss. Everything for the last 10 years sounds like bad EMO to me.
Members DonK Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 Not that there's such a thing as "good" EMO.

The one Steve Perry thing I actually liked was the simple piano ballad "Foolish Heart".
Members Crazyfoo Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 I liked them 25 years ago but now I can't stand them - Bon Jovi.Retire already!
Members harrycox1 Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 Twisted Sister. Weird thing is I really like Dee Snyder. He seems likable and well spoken. I just can't stand his music.
Members Kreatorkind Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 @StenbergerHack I can't stand Steely Dan. I've never heard anything by them that I wasn't annoyed by after 30 seconds.
Members Kreatorkind Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 Steely Dan, Chicago, Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, probably a lot more I can't think of...
Members RobRoy Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 HAHAHA! Yeah, Bad Emo is redundant.
Members moogerfooger Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 OH sherry wasnt a journey song -- just saying
Moderators Red Ant Posted December 7, 2016 Author Moderators Posted December 7, 2016 Steely Dan, Chicago, Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, probably a lot more I can't think of... Steely Dan are one of my absolute all time faves
Members onelife Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 I really enjoy sitting around with some good players and playing a few Dan tunes. It must have been a real treat for you (albeit combined with a bit of pressure) when you got to do that tribute gig.
Moderators Red Ant Posted December 7, 2016 Author Moderators Posted December 7, 2016 We're about to do it again (pin intended )!!! I'm stoked.
Members RobRoy Posted December 7, 2016 Members Posted December 7, 2016 Yeah, someone reminded me of another: Grateful Dead. That's four.
Moderators Red Ant Posted December 7, 2016 Author Moderators Posted December 7, 2016 Yeah, someone reminded me of another: Grateful Dead. That's four. I have a love/hate thing with the Dead... which makes sense as they were the most inconsistent band I can think of.
