  1. Looking good. Nice to see you're still working on it.
  2. Congratulations. Happy New Guitar Day.
  3. Mojo sent. The praise band restarts rehearsals Saturday (with masks and social distance). First time playing in worship again will be Father's Day.
  4. Happy New(ly repaired) Amp Day.
  5. If changing your recording/micing setup doesn't improve things, find a smaller guitar in your price range, a Yamaha, Alvarez, Takamine, or other reputable brand. The X Series Martins can be found fairly cheap used.

    knobs

If you're talking about knobs in general, I've always been partial to knobs with definite pointers or numbers. I've never been able to get into, for example, the knobs on a P-Bass.
  7. They're probably lucky to be allowed to be open. But you just know if it's a small crowd it'll be your fault and if it's a large crowd it'll be because it's such a great bar. Best of luck with the gig. One nice thing about being in a worship band, nobody expects us to be the draw.
  8. garthman - Well done. I appreciate your slower version. Melodic and melancholy.
  9. Unfortunately, if Jeff-B tried naphtha and Meguiars it was seven years ago. He hasn't even been around since December, 2013. That's how old this thread is.
  10. When you fret a string its effective length changes. It becomes shorter and it's thickness becomes greater in proportion. And yes, intonation is the reason the 12th fret marks the approximate midpoint. And FWIW, compensation is based on the thickness of the string's core. That's why an unwound 3rd string, which is all "core," requires more compensation than an otherwise thicker, wound 4th.
  11. Now, now, if you can't say anything nice...
  12. Hi and good to hear from you again. We're here but sometimes I wonder why. Anyhoo, don't be such a stranger.
  13. Okay, here's my latest, short but I hope sweet. Our church launched a project for Lent in which various musically inclined members would take a Bible verse (or two) from a list, usually from the Psalms, and set them to music (with the stipulation that you have to use the exact words of the verse) to help folks remember them. Other members are creating original art to go along with the verses. I chose Psalm 18:18-19. The art for that verse will include a rainbow and/or landscape. I used the passage twice and wrote a bridge with a reference to rainbows. Herewith, I present "God Delighted in Me." https://soundcloud.com/david-phelps-681437607/god-delighted-in-me
  14. He's no Leonard Cohen but Simon does have a way with a song. Well done.
  15. Not to mention, as soon as you fret a note all that carefully calculated geometry goes out of whack anyway.
  16. Happy (Pending) New Bass Day. Let us know your impressions when it (finally) arrives.
  17. Have you thought about a regular HSS pickguard with a mini-to-humbucker mounting ring? https://www.stewmac.com/SiteSearch/?search=mini to humbucker mounting ring Dunno if it would work but it might be worth a try.
  18. Interesting idea, a guitar that looks like one of their basses and a bass that looks like one of their guitars. From what little I know, short scale Ric basses are rare so this one will be unique.
  19. Okay then, how about "Dylan is as good a choice as any"? 😉
  20. garthman - Well done. As I've said before, it's hard to go wrong with Dylan.
  21. GHS rollerwound Nickel Rockers are another compromise between flats and roundwounds.
  22. Hi and Welcome to the Forums. Just bear in mind, any Hashimoto guitar you find today will have been made in the 1970's if not earlier, meaning it will be a 40+ year old guitar with all the attendant issues expected in a 40+ year old guitar. If it checks out by all means go for it but don't get too excited.
