  1. GHS rollerwound Nickel Rockers are another compromise between flats and roundwounds.
  2. Hi and Welcome to the Forums. Just bear in mind, any Hashimoto guitar you find today will have been made in the 1970's if not earlier, meaning it will be a 40+ year old guitar with all the attendant issues expected in a 40+ year old guitar. If it checks out by all means go for it but don't get too excited.
  3. garthman - Well done. Thanks for helping start the new year off well.
  4. garthman - Well done. Thanks for posting. I was afraid I'd be the only one this month. Misha - Good to hear from you. We're all doing the best we can. Wishing you better fortunes in the coming year.
  5. Here's something for the season, an original from last year titled "The No Christmas Presents Blues" https://m.soundcloud.com/david-phelps-681437607/the-no-christmas-presents-blues
  6. Hi and welcome to the Forums. Assuming you mean the space where the preamp fits is empty, the good news is that Takamine preamps are pretty much a couple of standard sizes. A dealer should have no problem ordering a replacement.
  7. Here's one from me, a cover of "I Saw the Light (in Your Window Tonight)" by Wynonna Judd. https://soundcloud.com/david-phelps-681437607/i-saw-the-light-in-your-window-tonight
  8. garthman - I appreciated your slower, more moody rendition. Well done. The original seems almost upbeat by comparison, which is odd considering the theme of the song.
  9. The effects loop is between the preamp and power amp. The fact that you get output when the two are connected via the effects loop means there's a problem with the signal chain at that point.
  10. Your home built guitar looks great. Love the bearclaw. Sadly, I have neither the skills nor the patience to build my own. My Ibanez is an AW120 like this one. Mine is a 2003 from when they were still made in Korea. Their acoustics don't get a lot of love but I think it's as good as just about anything out there for the price.
  11. Congratulations and Happy New Guitar Day. You can always call it a "rescue" like some of us do with our dogs.
  12. jmcclure had three posts when I replied but it really doesn't matter. Manners cost me nothing.
  13. Hi and welcome to the Forums. Cool looking guitar.
  14. Sounds like we need to set up a GoFundMe page to buy you a Gauss meter.
  15. garthman - Well done. Hard to go wrong with Dylan. I appreciate your slower, more moody version. It seems more appropriate for a song about the end of a relationship.
  16. Happy New Magnets Day? I guess that's a thing now? I'm guessing some of the potential negative effects are similar to Stratitis. Anyhoo, as long as it sounds good to you, that's what counts.
  17. Looks good. Keep us posted on your progress.
  18. 08-38 is pretty light. Unless it's in bad shape structurally I wouldn't worry too much. FWIW, I use Skinny Top Heavy Bottoms 10-52 with a 25.5" scale, but then I'm a ham fisted acoustic player and don't do bends. I think something like Super Slinky 09-42 or even something slightly heavier should be fine depending on your playing style.
  19. Congratulations and Happy New Guitar Day. FWIW, it looks like the previous owner might have strung it left handed based on the way the saddles are arranged. You'll want to get it properly intonated and maybe a complete setup.
  20. Congratulations. Happy New Guitar Day.
  21. garthman - I wasn't familiar with that one but I enjoyed it. Thanks for posting.
  22. Pics aren't showing. Could be the recent Forum "upgrade."
  23. Never even visited there but I doubt I'd feel welcome Good to hear you're still working on your build.
