  1. catscurlyear - Well done. Interesting sound from the guitar too, not quite electric or acoustic.
  2. Using an electric pickup in an acoustic guitar can be tricky. They're designed for steel/nickel wound strings and when you use them with typical bronze wound acoustic strings the plain strings tend to be very pronounced. If you go that route, consider some variety of "acoustic/electric" strings like GHS White Bronze. Martin monels would probably work or maybe D'Addario nickel bronze.
  3. Idunno - Very well done. I wouldn't even try. Thanks for posting.
  4. kujozilla - Well done. I've heard Tanya Tucker's version Thanks for contributing, we need new blood (even if it's old blood).
  5. garthman - Well done. Thanks for posting. I was beginning to wonder if it was worth daddymack's time to pin this thread.
  6. Here's my latest, an original titled "Part of My Heart." Mrs. DeepEnd and I had small roles in a local low budget film back in 2015 and it inspired this song. I wrote the first verse, bridge, and chorus in June, 2015, and it remained unfinished until I wrote the other two verses this week. https://soundcloud.com/david-phelps-681437607/part-of-my-heart
  7. catscurlyear - Well done. Much better than I could do. Thanks for posting.
  8. Lovely guitar. Ibanez knows their stuff. Congratulations and Happy New Guitar Day. Mask the fret so you don't take a chance of marring the wood and use very fine steel wool with minimal pressure. One of those multi sided nail shaping/filing blocks works too.
  9. Okay, here's one from me in the spirit of keeping the VOM1T going. An old recording of an original called "In My Quiet Place," sort of my take on The Lord's Prayer. https://m.soundcloud.com/david-phelps-681437607/in-my-quiet-place
  10. kwakatak - Beautifully done. Way better than anything I could do. Thanks for posting.
  11. catscurlyear - Well done. I hope the Sun does come one of these days. We need it. garthman - I wasn't familiar with that one but I enjoyed it. Thanks for posting.
  12. g6120 - Great to hear from you again. Liked the song a lot and the video was very well done.
  13. Nah. Let 'er rip if you got anything.
  14. Unless the neck has been replaced that's a "Harmony" logo on the headstock. Beyond that, I have no clue.
  15. catscurlyear - Well done. Much better than I could do. Thanks for posting, I was getting lonely. Thanks for the kind words. "Love in Amber" is supposed to be sort of melancholy folk so I guess it's close to Bluesy. Anyway, I'll take it. I just wish my playing were better.
  16. It's also most likely due to a little thing called "autocorrect."
  17. There's a week and a half left in April and none of us are going anywhere, nor is this thread. I don't recall ever seeing a VOM1T thread closed. You can always bump it to be sure your submission is nominally part of "April." And as garthman pointed out there's always May if necessary. Best of luck with your muse.
  18. Here's a twofer from me. First, a new original called "Love in Amber," inspired by the discovery of two flies preserved in amber in the act of mating for 41 million years. https://nypost.com/2020/04/06/mating-flies-preserved-in-amber-have-been-doing-it-for-41-million-years/ (Photo copyright by the NY Post) And a new recording of an original I wrote 15 years ago in honor of the Hurricane Katrina volunteers. With the current climate it seemed appropriate again, so here's "The Light of the Morning."
  19. And grave robbers gonna resurrect 15 year old threads. Welcome to the Forums.
  20. Hi and welcome to the Forums. Probably good advice but the OP asked the question nearly 12 years ago. I'm pretty sure he/she's made a decision by now.
  21. No suggestions but I'm glad to see you getting back to your build. 👍
  22. Dumb question but you should be able to look inside the guitar and see a model number. Does yours not have one?
  23. I recall the saddles on those Conn guitars being brittle, chipped saddles were fairly common on brand new instruments. Yours doesn't appear to be suffering from that particular malady but a bone or TUSQ saddle might not be a bad idea. Easy enough to install.
  24. Hi and welcome to the Forums. Does yours have maple back and sides like this one? I almost bought one like it years ago. It was a factory second (there was a blemish on the neck heel) and had been rented to a student and then returned. The music store in my home town was selling it for half the price of a new, perfect guitar and I almost bit. BTW, "jap" is considered offensive. "MIJ" is preferable.
  25. I kinda like all of them. Faceplant is my favorite for some reason.
