  1. That, to me is a Hobson's choice of amps. Were these her choices, or what you suggested to her? Neither is gig-worthy [IMHO, YMMV], so, I gotta ask...are you trying to stick her with an expensive [crap] digital SS Amp, out of vengeance? I would be more inclined towards a Fender Mustang LT50 or spend a tad more for a Champion 100 if it is going to be that kind of amp....
  2. Get them French polishers working faster!
  3. klingon re-wire? Pay less for Kahless....? Not quite a bat'leth...but a worthy weapon of honor....Worf would play it
  4. there is very little information available online on Morris guitars.
  5. Forgot to ask...what p-ups did you stick in the Agile, and how are they wired?
  6. Are you adding a room to the Penguin cave? Out of the three, I think the Agile looks like the best...but you know what I like.....😉 Yamaha made some very good guitars...Pacificas and on....they don't get the love they deserve, IMHO. I used to recommend them to my students back when I was still teaching in the 80s. I had a good friend back in that era who swore by his Ibby RX....locking trem/nut and all. I just feel threatened by pointy guitars....
  7. This all sounds very odd....have you tested the HotRails individually to make certain they are functional?
  8. W_U, without sounding too harsh, badpenguin has been trying to assist this forumite for several months, and the OP is having difficulty narrowing down what he wants based on his particular style of playing which, I might add, is atypical. So to 'call him out' for expressing some mild frustration, without having been spending the time to see how invested he is in this process, is uncalled for.
  9. First, forget about any nonsense you read about poplar as a 'tonewood', because it makes virtually no difference. Second, you have been struggling with this for months now, and you still have not made a decision. So I am curious what you think another thread about changing your Charvel's p-ups will get you. We can suggest every pick-up on the market, but ultimately, you need to make your own decision as to what will get you where you need to be, tonally. Put something new in there. It may not be perfect, but you will have at least gone passive, with new pots, [recommended]. Seymour Duncans are perfectly good, so are DiMarzio, Lawrence, Fralin... If it were me, based on the styles you play, I would go with something like a Bareknuckles Brute Force bridge and a True Grit neck. But there are so many possible options and combinations, we could be here another six months and you would still be unsure. Take the plunge, and if the new ones are also 'uninspiring', then swap them out until you get inspired. No one hears your guitar the way you do...
  10. dude...git'er done...pop on the nut, spin up some strings and play that beauty!
  11. Just return the speakers...they were not as advertised.
  12. Which runs right by Guild's facility in Oxnard a couple times a day....runs right through Hooterville, too.... [we are not anywhere 'near' the surf]
  13. sorry, never heard of that. Could you give us a bit more info? How old is the guitar, a model number...a photo?
  14. I think finding a shop that caters to acoustic players is a great idea. Another thought is to find a luthier and have one built to your specs, which, at 4 grand, is within the realm of possibility. We have a few luthiers here, like Freeman Keller, who might cater one for you. I'm sure that there are likely several in your neck of the woods as well.
  15. Yes, the Revstar TOM and the Surfliner TOM are going to feel very much the same.
  16. first...welcome to HC! second...61 is not that old! [most of our regular forumites here are geezers, myself included] Now onto your quest. You need to set a budget so we can give you reasonable advice. A new HD-28 in sunburst would run you in the neighborhood of $3500, plus case and tax. Frankly, you can get similar sound for less, but Martins are still considered the 'gold standard' by many. You just play around the house, for your own amusement? I'll guess you want a new, not used guitar...which will definitely raise the prices. Having only a 12 string isn't 'foolish', but it can be limiting. {I do have an acoustic [Martin] 12, as well as an electric 12 [Danelectro], and they have their place in my arsenal, but are rarely my 'goto' when I sit down to practice.} I won't spend time on Gibson or Guild since you are aware of those labels. I also won't go into the carbon fiber manufacturers since you said you want all wood. Larrivee? I have never seen one either. May I suggest a few places to do some looking [and possibly drooling?] at high end acoustics that may [or may not] fit your tastes? Collings would be a good start if you want something competitive with Martin. They do sunburst finishes, as well as some flame and quilt tops. Again, not knowing the limit on your budget makes this pretty scattershot. TBH, I have seen a few Collings, but never played one. Maton makes some excellent instruments, but here again, I have seen a couple, played none. But if they make Tommy Emmanuel happy, they must be doing it right. Taylor is another option, and you might be able to squeeze two into your limit if you are not overly picky...I have played a few, they are well made and sound very good. Andrew White makes some interesting guitars, including dreadnoughts, although again, I have heard a few, never played. This should be a decent starting point for you...Good hunting...please come back and update us as you proceed!
  17. looks good...neck dive much?
  18. tell him you don't know which one you'll be using at the gig until you try all your basses out during practice... You will still sound pretty much the same regardless. The guys in my old band never complained about what guitars I used...I could consistently deliver 'my' sound no matter what guitar I used...it is all in the fingers, after all...
  19. good to see you are progressing...and I am impressed you set up your own electroplate 'tank'....how do you dispose of the nickel salt solution? Most places will not permit you to dump that into the sewer. I like the 'antiqued pink' look you got on the back
  20. oh..that was what...2010 or 2011? There was a whole big thread in Effects on that, IIRC
  21. Remember that these are 'studio monitors'...designed for hearing the mix, not changing it....
