I am not ashamed though

Members StratoSlacker
Strat. much more versatile in sound and for modding. don't like the neck on your strat, bolt on a new one. knock your strat over, "oh darn, better put that back on the stand". knock your LP over, "Oh god no no no no no!!!!!!! Lord Jesus no, Sweet Georgia Brown, Hail Mary full of grace...." i love them both though.
Members eugene3ph
i'd choose both.... both are great guitars.... each have their own advantages and disadvantages...

Members dwerlin
Strat. It's my all-time favorite guitar. Love the tone, love the feel.

Members Carbohydrates
Strat, no question. Lightweight, tone all over the place, comfortable. I have an LP copy that gets used occasionally, but I could certainly do without it.
Members cratz2
In general, I'd take the strat over the LP. But since according to your rules, I couldn't have an H/S/S strat like I'd prefer, I'd leave your fascist state and get on with a humbucker. Members Brian Krashpad
I prefer the tones from an LP. But I always own at least one Strat-style guitar too. Though for Fender sounds I prefer Teles.
Members Patuney
Strat. I'm way past that ground shaking arena rock stage, AND I still have most of my hearing left.(I do love my old beat-up studio though)
Members StratoSlacker
Look at that. neck and neck. not surprising.
Members Faber
The strat's got versatility, and I do love the strat tones. When I play however, the full sound of a two HB gibson is the way to go.
Members Chezdon
Strat. Sexier, Lighter, Versatile. I'd just love a HSS Black/Olympic White Strat with a maple fretboard. One can dream.

Members mike.sartori
I own both, and I would have to say strat, with MUCH hesitation. Usually I like to play both, if I am playing for an extended period of time. Les Paul sets 'em up, Strat knock's 'em down! I would just miss the quack, and the trem, too much. Members csm
The Strat and the Les Paul are both beautiful, brilliant instruments and, along with the Telecaster, the ES335 and VERY FEW OTHERS, represent the Grand Archetypes of modern electric guitar design. Which one of those anybody prefers is entirely down to personal taste in look, feel and sound, and does not represent 'better' or 'best' in any meaningful objective or quantifiable sense. Personally, I like Strats.
Members Muddslide
Between a strat and Paul, definitely a Paul. But I would have a MUCH harder time deciding between a tele and a Paul if I could only have one. Dunno...never got on much with strats. I've owned some nice ones, and I appreciate them for what they can do, but meh.
Members deoreo
A Strat, but I would have to put a humbucker in the bridge if it was my only guitar.
Members Mel Cooley
Let's see: Strat: Cons: Vibrato arm for tuning instability, wimpy bridge pickup sound, scrawny, annoying "out of phase" sounds, middle pickup in the way for finger picking and doesn't have the depth/warmth that a bridge/neck combo does. Pros: Comfy, hangs well on a strap Les Paul: Cons: Possibly heavy without a good strap, needs strap locks Pros: Shorter easier playing neck, three rich and variable pickup selections, stays in tune. With proper wiring and PAF style pickups, can do a great job playing rock, jazz, blues, country, and even metal. I'll take the Gibson

Members Mr Songwriter
Les Pauls are good fun to play and I like that solid feel they have to them, but if I was forced to choose I would go for a Strat, I tend to prefer brighter guitars anyway and I like having all the out of phase pickup options you get with a Strat, plus they're a lot easier to play sitting down (and standing up) than an LP. Members Rook87
For me, it's really hard to beat the deep growl of an LP through a good tube amp... Hafta say LP (I think Jimmy P would agree)
