The things that help make a Tele twangy are that the bridge and plate that supports the pickup are the same unit, the fact that two strings per saddle are transferring vibration back through the plate to the rest of the guitar, ferrous metal bridge plate spreads the magnetic field, and the plate on the bottom of the pickup messes with the magnetic field which adds the distinctive percussive "pop/cluck". The way to make it sound twangier is to use a stiffish pick and pick back behind the pickup.
