Members notjonahbutnoah
Both their strong suits are songwriting. Both their weak points are the vocals. That said, I never really got into PJ put jame out to Siamese Dream on the regular so personally, I say Pumpkins.

Members Folky_Grunge
Pearl Jam is one of my favorite bands, so this is obvious for me. I kind of like some of the Pumpkins pre-Mellon Collie stuff (Gish and Siamese Dream are both good; I really like some stuff on them and hate some of it, too), but that's about as far as I like them. Corgan is the main talent in the band, and while he's a great player - I'm actually a bigger fan of his playing than the band itself - his vocals are really hit or miss, and end up annoying a lot of the time. Pearl Jam as a whole is composed of better musicians and puts out better songs.
Members Iamtehcure
Everything Pearl Jam has done is good, the Pumpkins had Gish. No contest
Members orangesix
SP has a much more diverse catalog. Most of PJ hasn't stood the test of time musically. Prefer SP.
Members houseofglass21
I like Pearl Jam's first three records alright. After that they got really boring. The people that say that SP only had Gish and Siamese Dream are usually people that never even bothered to listen to anything that came after that and base their opinion solely on singles they heard on the radio. Members oinkbanana
put my vote down to SP even if billy's a dick. i've never liked PJ but they've been much kinder to their fans. but at this point more time won't change how relevant they'll be outside of the 90's grunge/altrock bubble. Members LuckisforLosers
Smashing Pumpkins for sure. Pearl Jam is just terrible. I don't know what people see in them. And for all the {censored} that Billy Corgan gets (deservedly so, I'll admit) I think Eddie Vedder is equally annoying.

Members decode6
I like SP more. So PJ had McCready and Gossard? There are tons of metal bands full of unbridled talent but that doesn't mean I have to favor them over a sloppy band with good music. And Chamberlin is the best musician out of both those bands.
