  1. The PAC112V has better pickups and a better tremolo and is more of an intermediate instrument than strictly a beginner guitar but either guitar is going to be well made and at least adequate for your needs. You need to decide how much you want to invest. Play both or have a friend or music store employee play both side by side and see if there's a noticeable difference either way. If you can't justify or afford the PAC112V, the PAC112J will serve you well.
  2. With Gibsons, the "J" in many cases means slope shouldered dreadnaught rather than the narrow waisted wide lower bout shape most of us think of as a "jumbo." The J15 is the former, the J200 is the latter. Looks like the LG-2 is the least expensive small-bodied Gibson currently being built: http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Acou...can-Eagle.aspx.
  3. All else being equal--which it isn't, of course--you'll get a bit less than 2dB more peak volume out of the Egnater in 60 Watt mode with the same cab. That said, it is a killer deal. Good luck.
  4. Well, yeah, there is that. I assumed the OP knew what he was getting into and just wanted comments on the amp. Lord only knows few musicians actually need a 120 Watt amp, let alone one that typically sells for around $1200. A "steal" is still going to be a lot of dough unless the word "steal" is literal.
  5. I did a web search for "Egnater Vengeance problems" like you probably did and couldn't find anything. Some early Tourmasters had faulty transformers but that's about it. Beyond that, they seem to have a loyal following. With luck, someone who has actual hands-on experience will reply.
  6. ^ Great. Now we have mods necro-posting. This thread is a year and a half old.
  7. Looks good. You're about due for some good luck so I hope it turns out well.

  9. Welcome back and congratulations on becoming a dad. Your life will never be the same.
  10. She's definitely planning on getting a better guitar also. She's been looking in the $2,000 range but I'm strongly advising her not to spend that much on a gigging acoustic as, with as many shows as she / we play, and as careless as she is with equipment, it will surely be stolen or crunched. I'm recommending a little Martin 000 for around $800 or less as a compromise between tone and lack of dread while gigging. . . . A used pro-level Takamine, maybe a NEX (mini jumbo) would probably do nicely. They have excellent electronics and make great stage guitars. Keep an eye on your local CraigsList or equivalent. A straight acoustic with a good pickup is also a good option.
  11. Years ago I played a guy's Giannini 12-string that had a brass ball point pen refill (hollow) for a saddle. I remember it sounding okay but there wasn't much break angle.
  12. Sweet. Never even been in the same room with an Ehlers. Looks like the nearest dealer is in Nashville, TN. 300 miles is a bit far even if I could justify the purchase.
  13. Yea, It's the one at Cash Generator, thay had it advertised for
  14. Is this it, by any chance? http://www.cashgenerator.co.uk/acoustic/tanglewood-black-mountain-wildwood-model-tbm-110l-by3258. It's the only one Google could find. In any event, I've liked the Tanglewoods I've run across. My guess (and that's all it is) would be that it's probably all solid wood. If the one in my link is the same guitar, I don't know how long it will stay around but $800+ (
  15. All laminated, probably worth $75 on a good day. "Solid" in this case probably means in good condition.
  16. Depends on the guitar's condition and price. There's something to be said about an older guitar with some character but there's also something to be said for having a warranty.
  17. Hard to go wrong with Grovers and I personally think the tuners they put on Seagulls are ugly. However, first make sure they fit. Measure your existing tuners (I don't own a Seagull so I don't know what brand of tuners yours has) then go here: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,_solid_peghead_tuners.html and find something that will fit. You don't necessarily have to buy the new ones from StewMac but they're a great source of information.

  19. Bentleys were cheap and cheaply made. Back in '74 when I was shopping for a 12-string I looked at a brand new Bentley 12-string that had a noticeable gap under the bridge. I'd been thinking about getting one but that did it for me.

The saddle doesn't need to be glued in place. The strings hold it there. Sometimes the saddle fits snugly enough that it's not prone to falling out anyway. I'll leave the string slack question for someone else because I generally get it wrong when I change strings. Finally, it's normally not necessary to "scrub" the fingerboard and anyway some makers like Martin recommend avoiding lemon oil. A tiny amount of linseed oil on a soft cloth occasionally, followed by wiping off as much of the stuff as you can, is all you need. It doesn't hurt to go over the fingerboard with 0000 steel wool from time to time but you really don't need to scrub it and you certainly don't need an electric toothbrush.
  21. Dean Markley Vintage Bronze strings are available in a composite gauge called "Tight Light" with the gauge becoming progressively heavier toward the lower strings. Should do what you want but I've never used them. You might also want to go to The Annex and check out the String Test. Click on "Tech Stuff" and then on "String Test."
  22. Fred Kelley dot com and they are nice little picks Sorry but that turns up a plain white page with the words "Please visit QuitSmoking.com to quit smoking". Fredkelly.com doesn't do it either. It's http://www.FredKellyPicks.com/. Anyway, $3.00 for a guitar pick (4 for $12.00) is a bit rich for my blood but thanks for the recommendation. And if anyone is interested, Maury's is clearing out the left-handed version for $2.00 each: http://www.maurysmusic.com/inc/sdetail/616.
