Members BlueSky1963
I've only ever used the stock 3 springs. Any pros/cons to adding 1 or 2 more?

Members kayd_mon
I use 5, even on my PRS SE. I find it easier to set it up that way
Members cratz2
I think I have about 10 strats. The surfy ones are set up with 3 springs and set to just barely float off the body. The others are set up Clapton style... 5 springs, no float and no arm.
Members Kellanium
5 springs. I never use the trem on my strat, so it doesn't much matter to me if it's there or not. Don't like hardtail strats though, for some reason.
Members grunge782
I play in e flat, so 3 springs set parallel.
Members Jkater
I voted 3 simply because that's what's in there but, as strat n00b, I'd like to hear the pros and cons of three versus five. Here's my "strat style' trem cavity:

Members Snowcow
3 parallel on the ones I use the trem arm on (never had any issues with tuning). 5 on the ones I don't use the trem arm on.
Members genesis3
3 in a V ..two when i can get away with it...i just love the easy response of two...the less resistance and more responsive the better...maybe why I think the ibanez ZR is the bees knees.. Members Doctor Morbius
My baritone Strat has 4 springs due to the extra string tension, but other than that 3 springs in a W pattern works well for me. I've found using more springs makes it difficult to finesse the trem and I like a responsive trem. I setup all but a couple of Strats with floating trems and I like them to work effortlessly as I use them all the time for Surf. I don't do any dive bombs, just tasteful dips and vibrato so they all stay in tune fairly well. -------- The REAL Doctor Morbius!
Members Fenderman1991
I never use the term, all 3 starts are blocked...5 springs, claw screwed so the bridge is flush to the body. Never had tuning problems, never looked back. I'm talking weeks of being in tune. Naturally I make sure it's precise when I'm jamming, but for my mim I never really use, I've had it in its case for like 3 weeks without touching it, take it out, and it's still in tune give or take a couple of cents. Members GAS Man
I have a few strats and generally go with 3 springs for a floating trem feel when using string gauge sets of .009s to .010s. But on any gauge above that, I add another spring.
Members DaleH
Springs do not have the same spring tension. Fender spring I use 4. There pretty soft. I can load and unload them by hand easily. GFS are a little harder and the springs on my Squier VM strat are close to twice the tension of a fender spring.I use 3 and it's much stiffer than the 4 fender spring on my other strat. Members csm
Four on my '63 -- because the springs are old and they've weakened over the decades. Three on my newer ones.
Members Elessar [Sly]
I am pretty sure that there are 4 in mine currently. I may be wrong, but I did do a load of upgrades last year and I think I had one put in =/

Members poolshark
Almost always five springs set to float, including Floyd Rose tremolos. Keeps things from getting too loosey goosey during regular play, and the extra tension can really aid with subtle use of the bar.
