  1. NEW AVRI Jazzmaster Pickup Pulls guaranteed not to be fake or counterfeit! I'm a platinum trader with over 40 transactions though this forum. Buy with confidence. Previous post deleted. NEW AVRI Jazzmaster pickups for $70 shipped CONUS (Continental U.S.). Does NOT include the pickup covers or screws. Pickups have been tested. Will package thoroughly. I've bought a new 2012 American Vintage Jazzmaster and am going to sell the stock pickups and replace them with something else. Upgrade your Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster with AVRI pickups today! Update: Removed the pickups. Desoldered the white leads, but had to snip the black grounds as I couldn't melt the solder that was on the brass shielding. Only removed about 1/8" though. Tested pickups with the screwdriver test and they worked fine. The measurements are as follows ... Bridge: 8.10 k Neck: 8.28 k EDIT: A set with covers (mine don't include the covers) just sold on ebay for $86.84 shipped. A set of aged white covers are only $7.43 shipped. Mine are the same as these without the covers ... They will NOT look like these inferior pickups ...
  2. Someone may make a CITIZENS ARRR-ESST Dear God. I remember that episode. That stupid Gomer voice stuck in my head for days, even when I was a kid.
  3. I am sorry for your loss. Mojo sent.
  4. Showmans are still sought after by the surf guitar crowd.
  5. Different brands of strings utilize different compositions of alloys and ratios of the inner core's thickness proportionate to the thickness of the string's outer wrap. Because of that, an Ernie Ball .024w (for example) will bend more easily than, say, a Daddario .024w.This. I switched from D'Addario to Earnie Ball because D'Addarios felt too stiff for the same gauge strings.
  6. Congrats! I had a DRRI for a while. Not a bad sounding amp and pretty good deals can be had on the used market.
  7. I'd definitely keep the practically new American Standard Strat and practically new DRRI.
  8. I think signature guitars and relics are generally the most overrated/overpriced. For example, when they were available the Elvis Costello Jazzmaster cost a few hundred more than the AVRI series and there wasn't anything different about them other than the signature and the finish. And the finish was probably easier to do than on the AVRI series. There are always exceptions though, and the Johnny Marr Jaguar sounds like one of them. It brings some real functional differences over the AVRI series and it costs the same.
  9. Do the Fender MIA bridge pickups still come with the 2 big phillips head screws on the bottom?Yes they do.
  10. good stuff, thanks. it hadn't occured to me that the MIM's have hotter pickups, but I guess they actually do.In 2006 Fender started winding the MIM Standard Strat & Tele pickups hotter and started using CTS pots.
  11. I know my experience doesn't quite fit what the OP is looking for, but here's my story... I found a 1996 MIA strat, the type with the TBX tone control, for 500.00 in a Mom&Pop store and leaped on it...it was my only strat until 2006, when I grabbed a MiM standard out of Alto Music with a few dings for store cost, intending to use it in the truck I was driving at the time...as time went by I started preferring the MiM over the Mia, EXCEPT FOR THE PICKUPS... the pickups were replaced with a set of BG V60s and the MIA strat became superfluous, and got traded for an Epi Sheraton2... ...the end... But have you compared a 2008 or later American Strat to your 2006 MIM Strat? A lot of people on TGP, the Fender Forum and TDPRI really seem to like the updated 2008 and later American Standard Strats. I haven't read the same glowing reviews here because so many people prefer lower cost guitars.
  12. Great if you could do that. Are those new bent steel saddles off center like the american series saddles? I just bought one of those Fender mexi trems off amazon for $13. It has the full size block like the new MIMs. Just messured infront of the saddles. 2.076." - 52.73mm OK Dale, this is kind of weird. I took measurements on both trems today and it's leaving me with more questions than I had. Below are the results. 2007 Mexican Standard Strat Trem: String spacing as measured from the bottom of the trem block: 2 3/32" Saddle width of all 6 saddles at the widest point: 2 12/32" 2008 American Standard Strat Trem: String spacing as measured from the bottom of the trem block: 2 3/32" Saddle width of all 6 saddles at the widest point: 2 14/32" Ergo, the string spacing measures the same on both trem units, which is what you stated. However, the saddle width isn't the same, which is what I stated. This is what doesn't make any sense. If the saddle width of the American trem is wider, wouldn't that by necessity make the string spacing wider too? I do know that if you place MIM saddles on an MIA trem there will be a slight bit of space between each saddle.
  13. Great if you could do that. Are those new bent steel saddles off center like the american series saddles? I just bought one of those Fender mexi trems off amazon for $13. It has the full size block like the new MIMs. Just messured infront of the saddles. 2.076. 52.73mm No the American Standard's bent steel saddles have saddle screws in the center, unlike the offset American Series block saddles. I'm beat for now, but will take the measurements tomorrow with a 6" stainless steel ruler that has both 32nd and 64ths of an inch measurements.
  14. Then why does fender say with the American standard and new bent steel saddles "Then Fender improved them; narrowing the spacing to afford more room" Bridge Component Specifics American Standard saddles - The original vintage-style Fender bent steel adjustable saddle is one of the components that give vintage Fenders their tonal 'mojo.' Fender conducted tone comparison tests, and fell in love with them all over again. They have a wider tonal range and more character many other saddles. Then Fender improved them; narrowing the spacing to afford more room (and complement the bigger frets and rolled edges), elongated the string slot to reduce friction and string breakage, and improved the string break angle over the primary contact point Good question. I know the nuts are narrower than the older MIA Series Strats. I'll take some measurements tomorrow of both MIA and MIM Trem units and post back on this thread. If I'm wrong I'll own up to it.
  15. MIA strats are 2 1/16 bridge string spacing. RI starts and classic series and road worn MIMs are vintage 2 7/32." Calaham has them listed here for ordering model and years. http://www.callahamguitars.com/blocks.htm The OP is only interested in comparing the Standard Fender models. MIM Standard Strats and MIA Standard Strats do not have the same string spacing that you alluded to in an earlier post and again in this one. The MIA Standards have a wider string spacing. I have both MIA and MIM Standards. The bent steel saddles are not interchangeable. Trust me on this one. Callaham does not sell replacement trem units for the American Standard or American Deluxe Strats, which both have the same spacing.
  16. I'm reading some misinformation in this thread. For one, the "current" MIA Standard Strats do have a wider string and bridge spacing than the MIM Standards. And I don't believe the "current" MIM Standards have a laminate top either. Also, I've owned a 2006 MIM Standard Strat and a 2007 Standard Strat and both of them came with CTS pots and not Alpha pots. MIM Standards have a 42mm nut and the American Standards have a 42.8mm nut.
  17. On a related note. A saw a used MIM Strat for $199 at GC today. Was hanging right next to a MIM Strat for $299. It had a little crud around the knobs, but otherwise looked to be in similar condition. Anyone know why there would be a $100 difference?Without more information it's impossible to know. Could be a number of things.
  18. I'm very close to giving up on Craig's List completely because of the tire kickers. I have sold a few things in the last 6 months, but not enough to put up with the tire kickers and low ballers.
  19. Maybe your 9 year old son dialed in the perfect tone for you. He's probably been sitting back thinking, "Oh man, dad's tone {censored}ing SUCKS dude!"
  20. I know there are many out there who consider his music to be full of gimmicks and wankery, but his wankery sure do sound good!
  21. Are you doing all of this by yourself in your spare time? I think it looks great. I especially like the Flintstones bar.
  22. Excellent job. I would be so lost trying to do all of that.
