New to me Epiphone Dot.

S/N puts it in Korea April 2000. I feel like this dark color burst doesn't come up too often. Feels awesome in my hands. Maybe an expert can tell me what kind of bridge is on it. I'm pretty sure that's not stock. I'm also kind of on the hunt for a legit Epiphone pickguard with the E on it and everything, but I might have to settle for a black aftermarket replacement. Might pull the electronics and put in SD APH-2s and CTS pots, etc, but I'm in no rush just yet.

Background story: Three years ago I sold my number one electric to pay some bills (1997 Inca Silver Standard Strat) and I'm still kind of bummed about it, especially because similar guitars seem to be commanding quite a bit these days. I started playing guitar around 1995/1996 and I was really fond of the Epiphone Sheraton II then. I looked at quite a few of them this time around, but the gold hardware isn't me and I bet the bound fretboard with fret nibs means fretwork is extra. Money has been tight the last few years, but I just paid off a bunch of stuff and I haven't had a cigarette in seven months so I celebrated.

Bad News: I got this last Thursday (found it on Reverb) and discovered right away that the spring reverb in my Classic 30 was out. Today I was playing and I could tell something was up with the power tubes. I've got new tubes ordered and I might be ordering an Op Amp chip in case that is the problem.

Further Bad News: I've never really been one for GAS, but I've already spotted another guitar that I might make an offer on. With my amp now needing work, I kind of feel like I should have a backup amp (I guess I have an Acoustasonic Jr., but c'mon).

More then likely Samick made, and you have a killer beastie there! The bridge IS original, since I have the same one on my 95 Sheraton II. (Copy of the Schaller "Harmonica" bridge used on Gibbys in the mid 70's.) I rewired mine only to add treble bleed and de-coupled the wiring to allow me to drop one volume without killing the guitar. I think the original pickups and electronics are quite nice, and LOVE the kinda muddiness of the neck pickup.

Yes, GAS is an ongoing b*tch, but just surrender, you'll be happier for it. :p

I think you can find out for sure if you enter the serial number into the guitar dater site. According to them, my '01 Casino was made in the Peerless factory.

Nice. Congratulations and Happy New Guitar Day. I like the dark burst. :thu: FWIW, I haven't bought a guitar in years either. My last semi-major purchase was my current amp and that's been a couple of years. Other than that it's just been capos, tuners and the like.

Congrats, it's a sweetie!

I have a Sheraton, and I hear ya about the gold hardware---that's why I replaced it all with nickel/chrome components. Rewired it too---even the higher end Epis use crap electronics, in my opinion. It's a blonde, now sporting StewMac Golden Age pickups, locking Grovers, bridge and tailpiece from an old SG. It looks, sounds and plays great. I hope you're as happy with your Dot as I am with my Sheraton.

I also have a Carvin bass assembled from a kit. Opted for the ash body, single/hum, active. It's a fine instrument.
