Members Chordite
If you have a guitar with crap sustain why not go with the flow. You don't need to buy the gadget of course if you are a cheapskate you can either make one if you have a little workshop or probably stuff a neatly folded sock under the strings [video=youtube_share;fN4RmGQFoEc]https://youtu.be/fN4RmGQFoEc
Members gardo
Or you can just play like Bill Kirchen does in this clip ( Go to 4:11 )[video=youtube_share;SCOqXK7sX-4]
Members Etienne Rambert
If one wants to spend some coin, there might be a Dopera Bantar for sale somewhere.
Members Grant Harding
I can't find any video, but when I saw Martin Taylor open for Tommy Emanuel he did a trick where he wove a strip of a business card through the strings right by the bridge to produce a cool banjo/sitar effect. Members Grant Harding
Go for it! He also put a capo on about the 5th fret and I've found that does give it the best vibe.
Members DeepEnd
I don't know how he did it but a former guitarist for our praise band played a HSS Ibanez with the middle pickup through a Peavey modelling amp. There were times when it sounded an awful lot like a banjo. No idea what effects/model he was using.

(dial up the decompression and underdrive:) Or maybe as simple as fingering on the frets instead of behind them?

Mike left our church months ago and I haven't heard from him since, otherwise I'd ask him what settings/technique he uses. I don't think it was intentional, I think it just sounded like it was.
