Long story

I live between two GC locations but one of them was closed due to a power outage, so I went to the second one and bought a new, but beat-on amp with the agreement that it would be returned to the first store once power was restored for one still in the box.

So I take the amp home and set it up in the living room about 2 feet from where we crate our dog. Earlier in the evening, I gave the dog a bone with lots of meat and fat that was never trimmed and then put her in the crate before going upstairs to bed.

I woke up the next morning to find a 3 foot perimeter around her cage entirely sprayed in {censored}, including the amp. The dog got the {censored}s from the bone with all of the fat and raw meat. She had kicked the {censored} all over the place so she wouldn't lay in it.

I did my best to clean the amp but the front grill caught some of the {censored} spray that had dried and would not clean up but it didn't smell too bad.

So I take the amp back that day for an exchange for a new one and the guy asked me what happened to the amp. I told him that the other store had fixed a leak in the ceiling or roof and the contractors had sprayed some of the textured paint on the grill.

1 1/2 years later, that amp is still at the store.

:lol::lol:

so 1 1/2 yrs later the amp is still {censored}ty?

I had a guy say there is such thing as headstock tone? To my knowledge there is no such thing. Is this true?

My definition:

Headstock tone: (noun)the sound made when you turn and slam the headstock of your guitar into a desk, wall, bookcase, or any other solid object, usually followed by a exclamation of "Sh*t!".

Here is the story. I was at guitar center trying out a Epi joe pass sig and the salesman tells me to try the Epi casino out. It was his favorite. So i did and then he said the casino had better headstock tone, that is it sounded better because of the shape of its headstock. (by the way i still have not bought the joe pass yet. I will get it or the epi sheraton by the end of the summer)

When I bought my Pawar Turn Of The Century guitar from GC in Mays Landing, NJ, the salesman was insisting that it was an OLP clone of a Pawar.

I bought the guitar and contacted Pawar as to when it was made. Pawar told me that it was a rare Bigsby equipped Pawar and the 17th made.

Not GC, but the Canadian equivalent..

Went to Long & McQuade and started talking guitars with one of the guys. Got onto the topic of Rickenbackers and he tryed convincing me that they were made in England. I told him otherwise and he laughed me off.

I should have slapped him.

only went to guitar center a few times in my life, but still heard lots of stuff from my friends at the larchmont NY guitar center :cop:

here's a few that i remember (probably not exact quotes, but you get the idea)

----

Me: What's the best price you can give me on this guitar? it has a chip taken out of the headstock.

GC employee: Oh, no - that's part of the new design.

----

me: what's this about the line 6 spider valve? (this was back before very few people knew about it)

GC employee: I'm not sure, but it's probably just another overrated tube amp, but better since it's line 6.

----

me: can i try out this mesa combo?

GC employee: I'll have to check with the other guy

*disappears in the back for 10 minutes*

are you going to buy it first?

I don't really have any specific stories about GC, but in general the occasional guy who might know something is usually an asshole and the rest are idiots who probably worked at McDonalds in their last job before they were fired because they kept {censored}ing up the fries.

I go across the street to Sam Ash, the people are cool, generally knowledgable to very experienced.

And besides GC doesn't carry ESP:idk:
What the hell is that about?

when i asked him if i could order a Klon centaur( i was being an ass that day).....he said that all he had to do was order one and it would be about 2 weeks.

he then approached me about 10 minutes later and said that the girl at the front door had one for sale. (i looked over to see a girl, greeting at the front door, wearing a guitar hero shirt....)

i have 2 very cool guys, 1 in hollywood and 1 in the northridge store. they know me, and generally give me the price that I want or close to it. these 2 guys are managers and just want to move inventory. they know why waste the used car salesmanship on me, get the sale and move on to another customer. but both do not have a hard sell because i've watched them and both are very personable and not fake like a lot of people that work there.

Not in GC {censored} I wish there was a GC in PR. Since there are no gibson dealers over here.

Me: Do you have dimarzio pickups in stock?

The manager: No but we got ford pickups.

I didn't knew if I was supposed to laugh or cry or maybe slap that dumbass.

my story: "a 1meg pot? i've never heard of that, let me look it up.... yea, do you mean a 250K or a 500K? I've never even heard of a 1meg pot, I don't think they go that high, i can order you a 500K..."

my best friend: bought a zildjan cymbal and the guy told him about the life time (or 1 year, whatever it is) warrenty and told him that he doesn't have to worry about keeping the receipt because they keep it on file on their computer system.

and when the cymbal broke, he went to the same guy and got the good ole "well do you have the receipt, we need the receipt in order to get you a new cymbal"

and about a week ago i was told that they don't sell replacement pickup screws + springs, they only come in packs with the pickup rings for like $8 per pickup... riiiiight.

thank god for the internet. and al gore.

OH! and another i think we'll all enjoy

This was my other friend about 2 years ago... He won a used amp on ebay through a guitar center store, when the amp arrived it didn't work (a mesa boogie bass amp), so he called the guitar center and explained his situation, and asked if he paid the difference if they'd just send him a new one instead... they agreed and said they'd send a fed ex guy over to pick up the used non working amp.

well its been about 2 years later and no Fed Ex guy ever showed up haha, so he got two amps for the price of one. He even called the guitar center multiple times seeing when they were planning on sending someone to pick it up, and still no one ever showed. I think he got the best deal of the century haha...

I was in a local Toronto store (not L and McQ), and one of the employees noticed me playing some of their Ibanez guitars (yes, I am a whore for that brand), and decided to come over an pitch me them. I played along (as the guy completely blanked when I mentioned owning a nice one), and started asking him tons of questions:

"So are these Ibz/Dimarzio pickups any good?" "Well They're Dimarzios, so they're really good"

"What do you think of this trem? *playing a Xiphos*" "Oh, that thing is {censored}ing sick. Unbelievable how good it is. So, are you interested in buying that?"

Beyond the fact that their prices were always to high to begin with, they haven't marked down based on the exchange rate, unlike every other music store in the province, and they don't lower prices even when a guitar has obvious scratches and dings from poor handling all over it.
