Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted August 19, 2016 Moderators Share Posted August 19, 2016 There's a newish company in the UK, taking what I did about 12 years ago and making non sprayable, ultra low environmental impact hand applied finishes. They're called Wudtone. However I saw this on their gallery and fell in love....what say you?

If I do, I'll let you know, if you do, let us know. Are they available over there, or would you have to ship them over to where you are?
Members Mikeo
Didn't particularity care for that, both in color or grain pattern. Hot can be a bit subjective I hit there site and it is a very slow site, but I liked some other finishes that were in the galleries. http://www.wudtone.com/
Members badpenguin
So NOT! Yeah, it looks cool, but an hour with your arm on it, you'll hate it. Which is why Gibby's BFG, Ibanez's Cayman, and Fender's whatever they called it, were such duds.

Members badpenguin
The texture finish is annoying against the arm.
Phil O'Keefe
The last instrument I tried that had a similar finish was the Gibson EB Bass, and the open grain satin finish never really felt weird to me or bothered me in any way.
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted August 19, 2016 Author Moderators Share Posted August 19, 2016 There is no texture? It's just like thin nitro
Members badpenguin
See the grain highlite? that's the texture of the wood not being sanded smooth. Can't deal with it.
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted August 19, 2016 Author Moderators Share Posted August 19, 2016 Dude, you can't sand ash grain smooth, that's just porosity, it's part of what gives ash it's great tone. It has no tactile effect at all
Members mrbrown49
A little too turqoise for my taste, but love the look. I imagine it would feel like a well worn in pair of slacks.
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted August 19, 2016 Author Moderators Share Posted August 19, 2016 I'd like to see it in the 'flesh', blue guitars are horrible to photograph.
Members speakerjones
This is my issue. If it feels like nitro, but has a 3D effect to the grain, giddyup! If it feels at all rough/unfinished like the BFG did, complete fail.
Members GAS Man
Just happened to be "adjusting" when I opened this thread. Dang near got carried away with myself when I saw that guitar. So Wudtone is a good name for that guitar. Definitely hot! It reminds me a bit of my sandblastd Strat, but in a more refined sexy way. But yeah, that's a real pretty guitar. Definitely GAS-inducing. Hot except for the fact that I'm not a Strat guy and I don't like the color, so really not in my case. This is much more to my taste (also one of their guitars):

Brass bridge and brass pick guard screws. add a black pin stripe at the out line of the surface to enhance the green surface. brass speed knobs and black 5 way switch tip.. Members billybilly
Seriously? If that grain hurts your arm you need to graduate from diapers. Grain is subtle, the finish just makes it pop.l
