Strat was driving me nuts with the tuning.

How can anyone stand a tremelo bridge?

Tuning one string changes the pitch of the others!

I finally added a block today.

Threw a piece of Lignum Vitae on the belt sander until it fit.

Muuuuuuch better!

putting 2 more springs in mine made it surprisingly more stable. I haven't had tuning problems since...if it's a Mexi it could just be a nut problem, as the MIM's biggest problem were nuts and tuners (IMO)

i've never had tuning problems with my bridge on my CIJ strat. I gotta figure out a way to incoporate the tremolo with my blues. In a not wanker-ish way of course.

just the crappy squier one!

hat's the 57 vintage reissue?

how is the finish on that thing? wears off easily or?

That picture makes the guitar look less beat than it is. It seems like it wears down kinda easliy too me, but Ive played alot on that guitar, and I havent always treated it the best. Its basically a partsocaster now, by the end of the week the only thing that will be original is the body and the tuners.

yea, i'm a little weary about getting a guitar that would wear out soon due it its light finish!

I have the japanese strat model of the 57 vintage

it kicks some major arse!

No, it's Made In Japan.

Tuning has always bugged me on guitars.

Always seems a little off.

I recently learned that guitars can never be in tune,

depending on where on the neck you are playing.

I bought the Earvana nut but I can't find it!

I'm gonna carve my own compensated nut.

Maybe you have perfect pitch or something?

And yes, theoretically, your instrument can never be perfected tuned.

Just too much going on for that to happen. All the forces from the bridge, the saddles, the screws, the springs, and the strings in that are in the bridge. The tuning pegs and the strings matter too.

Ha. I don't think my problem is perfect pitch.

Imperfect pitch is probably a large part of it.

It is also impossible to ever intonate properly,

especially places like the first fret of the G string.

That is the string that is the most compensated with the Earvana.

1st fret on the G-string? I've never had a problem with that?

Did they have all this fancy stuff in the 60s or anything?

It's a fact that the guitar is an imperfect device to have in tune.

It's just a question of how much it throws you off, I guess?

finally took a pic pf my '96 Squier. nothing fancy, but she sounds and plays great. has all new electronics, pickguard and American Standard tuners.

EDIT: since posting this i removed the blade pickups (no hum, but too dull sounding) and replaced them with some GFS alnico singles. now it has that bright Strat spank i was missing.

I've currently got two. The black late `05 MIM below and a `06 white one that's otherwise visually identical. Both stay in tune great, but only after making sure the nuts were cut properly for my preferred 10s and doing a bit of tweaking on the bridge.

Tuners on MIM strats/teles are absoultely fine, you just have to wind the strings properly if you're going to use the trem. The force it would take to make one move from string pull would snap the string before it ever moved the tuner. Simple law of statics & dynamics.

Nice! My GF's dad just got a sunburst last week. Through a local M&P. They had a tech they know in the CS pick one out for him. I was skeptical they were as good as everyone says....till his came and I played it and restrung it for him. Simply sublime.

I picked up this Eric Johnson Strat on Friday at MF, scratch and dent. I couldn't find any blems on it. Great guitar.

Love my 98' Am. Std. Natural

I think we have the same guitar:

3fenders.jpg

It may be sacrilegious but I really like the Vintage Noiseless pickups I put in the sunburst '57 reissue and I was thinking about the SD Everything Axe set to put in the ash Strat just cos I love everything about it but want to 'speriment a little bit.

+1.

Guitars have "tempered tuning" whereby the "out of tuneness" is spread out over the whole neck making every note just ever so slightly out of tune.
