I'm backing Mazi fully on this. I've edited numerous posts and warned people dozens of times, but none seem to pay any attention. From now, if you post anything explicit, you're toast.

Problem is, what is explicit has not been clearly defined (the Rules are either vague or incomplete). It also includes pictures that are not explicit but are disturbing to the mod. The parameters of what is disturbing are also not defined. I posted a picture yesterday that I thought was clearly acceptable. It was clearly not acceptable because it was quickly removed.

I'm not challenging anyone's judgement, but two days ago I knew exactly what was acceptable and what was not. Now, I have no idea and with your new zero tolerance policy, I do not want to be banned because I have accidentally offended someone.

OK, you don't get to post anything but guitar pics.

Does that settle it?

No, probably not.

You will likely go find a pic of a guitar with a pornographic pic on it.

Go on, I TRIPLE DOG DARE ya!

I'm kinda in denial about my short arms. :)

I'm just as guilty as anyone with posting pics of EVH's head on someone else's body, and the recent thread with Frets 99 and the like... I suppose the forum would be a better place if people (including myself) just stuck to posting pics of guitars.

I understand that boobs are fun and interesting to the young posters here, personally I'm old enough to have seen more than my fill in person so that's not the attraction for me here. Frankly, I'd rather look at guitars on this forum. And like it's been mentioned, if boobs are important to a forum member there are plenty of porno sites on the Net to gaze at.

I personally would like the forum to be a fun and educational place but without all the nudes and the unnecessary swearing. To me it doesn't make one look cool or tough... but then I'm not 14 either. I understand young men think differently, as I once did. I personally think it's stupid (and even sort of pitiful), trying to impress some nameless faceless forumite that I will never meet in person, with my toughness or coolness. My 2 cents. :blah: :blah:

That was my point on the other thread. I feel this forum would NOT be a better place if we just stuck to posting guitars. I enjoy the humorous pics posted here.

BTW - I'm against the whole tittes-for-NGD anyway. I feel that anyone who can afford a new guitar when I can't should be punished, not rewarded.

But really... with all due respect, it IS an Electric Guitar Forum. It's design, I'll bet, was to educate and share information and not necessarily to make people laugh.

I'm all for funny... but I don't have a problem with moderators setting limits. Lack of supervision is what makes the bass forum so bad for me. They hardly ever talk about bass guitars. Everyone is trying to up each other with nonsense and funny, but seldom talk bass. It's pretty much useless as a bass forum.

well, im 43, love guitars, off colored humor, jokes, boobies, and occassionally let a profane word fly. This place isnt a southern baptist convention hall. It's full of creative people from all walks of life with all sorts of taste.

Damn. Just put a swim suit on the hooters and move on. It's not like we cant find some moderation here and that is what Mazi and Company have told us...

clean it up, use some judgement. Thats what I do. As I posted in another thread to Mazi, I have a wife and 2 young kids. I dont need a porn site. But an occassional NGD boobie shot is fine with me as long as it meets the rules established for people who read the forum from work at lunch etc...

Amen, Hallelujah, and sundry other things often heard at my Southern Baptist-affiliated university. :D

stuff like the Frets thread is probably not included here -- after all, Mazi did post in it -- he gots the mad photoshop skillz, too

is it really so hard to understand? no nips, holes, hair, or penetration, right? not so tough

funny that many of the folks complaining aren't old enough to buy/view porn anyway -- who the {censored} wants to contribute to the delinquency on minors anyway?

am I the only one here that gets laid or something?

If you wouldn't see in during a commercial on primetime network TV, then you shouldn't be seeing it, or posting it here either.

I mean, it's not hard to guess; it's really just common sense. Around the dawning of the World Wide Web, I was a young'un and even I could have guessed that. :freak:

I've ran a few of forums and modded a couple as well. What I really don't understand is why people bring up this point, all the time.

Of all the forums I've modded/ran, most of them clearly says that that posting of objectional material should be avoided. As far as "objectional" goes, like people said; not everybody in the world is baptist. But most of us do live in 'the normal world', where standards may be different from country to country; they are fairly similar. You generally try to avoid nudity and violence and all that or in short, what Mazi said:

I can't respond to what pther people do on other forums. This is the first time I've encountered this issue.

It's is no longer just about nudity. The picture I posted fell within the guidelines and could have been viewed on TV. In fact, I retrieved the photo from the acoustic guitar forum where a good laugh was had by all and it still lives there today. One guy even used it as his avatar for a while. Had he wandered over to the EG forum, he would have offended the mod. What is considered acceptable here is not determined by what is generally accepted by society, but by one individual's sensibilities.

Preemptive Rebuttal: Yes, the mod has every authority and right to do what he/she feels is appropriate. It's their job. That's not the issue.

There was a forumite on the other thread who was so upset with the mod's crackdown on picture content, that he declared he would not come back.

The response was essentially "Okay. See ya."

I felt bad for the guy. Everyone's contrubutions here have value and shouldn't be belittled.

what an over-reacting baby he must be - you are wrong, though, many "contributors" have absolutely no value here, other than as {censored} stirrers - I'm guessing someone who is more concerned about titty pics and splitting hairs may be one of them, but since you named no names, I don't know

one 17 year old forumite announced his departure and then posted again in that thread within 10 minutes - he can't log on to real porn sites, I guess, and uses HC for his substitute - I say, go meet a real girl and play with real tits

I like ya, Roy - but I ain't ever gonna understand why you chose this ridiculous battle to fight

I like ya too bud'. You have a rare clarity of vision.

Okay, this might take a bit of explaining. My apologies if it gets long.

My IQ is very high. I don't like to mention it but it largely defines who I am and it will become applicable in a moment.

The other thing that largely defines who I am is this: When I was 5 years old, I was walking out of a convenience store with my Dad. There were some gumball machines out front and some kids had ripped the top off one of them and were hastily scooping out handfulls of gumballs. I elbowed my Dad and said "Hey Dad, Look! Free gumballs!" My Dad looked at me and said "Every man IS his own code of honor. Those kids are stealing. That makes them thieves. Do you want to be a thief?" "No Dad." I replied. We told the owner about the gumball machine and he bought me a gumball. Since that day, Ive been hellbent on being a man of honor. Some geniuses apply themselves to physics, money, power....I get saddled with this ethical horse {censored}. Definitely a career disadvantage.

Anyway, seeing as how I'm a smart cookie that has overly applied themselves too ethics, here's what I've concluded. Ethics is easy. It's all about consideration for your fellow man. Saying "Thank You", not farting in a crowded elevator...that sort of thing. Consideration doesn't mean you have to grease up and take it whenever somebody has an opposing desire to your own, but it does mean you have to at least consider other people's point of view.

Consider for a moment the point of view of the forumite who left. Had he read the response, I believe his feelings would have been hurt at how little his absence would be missed. The ethical response is "Sorry to see you go." Yeah sure, his decision to leave was a bit extreme, but ethics is not about how others feel and what they do. Ethics is personal. It is about how You feel and what You do.

On to the battle issue.

It's not really a battle. I'm not fighting for the right to post offensive pictures. I'm not challenging their authority. I posted a picture that offended Mazi. I have no desire to offend him again. That would be unethical. To fullfill my ethical duties, I need a clearer understanding of what I may or may not post. I made every effort to define what is acceptable before posting the picture and still {censored}ed up.

I'm reminded of a saying about mountains and molehills -- either way, I don't reckon either of us are going to change our view much here -- I just hope it doesn't get to the point where you feel you should stop posting here or anything

after all, there is a new jam starting tomorrow ;)
