I've read some stuff on the Edge Zero II. Most of it is positive. Basically it is a trem with a built in blocking system (for noobs). Some people say they disconnect the Zero aspct of this trem, and I've read a few people say they felt like the Zero system felt stiffer. I don't know. Most people seem happy with it, though.

My reading of it, is thats it's basically the ZR as used on the Sabres, in which case it's the dog's bollocks

My MIC Dean Evo....grabbed it for under $100

I played one of those once awhile back and was amazed at the weight and the resonance.

Squire Custom II Tele P-90. Great guitar for the bucks, especially after a setup.

Vintage Modified huh? Those and the Classic Vibes get a lot of love and rightfully so IMO. I would think some of the best budget models still available today.

$20 for used Johnson JS-800 strat-o-clone.

It plays and sounds good.

Wow Virg, you really do have a Johnson guitar? All this time I thought you were some kind of perv.smiley-wink

A Yamaha 120S "tele" style, bought on ebay for like $60, stripped the paint off added GFS stainless steel saddles & a set of Wilkinson split coil HBs, best guitar I've ever owned.

Used to have a pair of their skis, then I had one of their tennis racquets and then I finally got a nice yammy acoustic - excellent stuff. I even have a very good friend that used to work in the US distribution branch. You'd think I would have had a chance to own a Yamerhammer electric by now, but nooop

Hands down winner ... Michael Kelly Patriot Classic. Just a fabulous rendition f a modernized Les Paul Custom. Ebony Fretboard' date=' silky smooth frets, Rockfield SWC pickups with push pull coil taps, Tone Pros bridge and tailpiece and Graphtech nut. It is a flawlessly-finished, Korean-built set neck guitar for around $350 street price.[/quote']

ummm... That's actually a Custom. ;)

...and you forgot to mention that the pickups are direct-mounted to the body on many of these models, including the Custom. ;)

Anyway, $350 would be a low USED price for a MK Patriot Custom -- not the typical street price for a new one , which is $699.

There was an interval of time about 5 years ago when you could find killer deals on new higher-end Patriot MK models (Limiteds, Customs, Premiums, Supremes, etc). Due to the economy and various model changeovers, MK was selling off overstock. You could get a new Custom for as little as $399 to $429 for a few months. Those times passed quickly, as all of those bargains were gobbled up by the knowing.

The MIK Michael Kelly models are made at the same factory -- World Musical Instruments Ltd. -- where the PRS SE models are made, as well as the higher-end models from Dean and ESP/LTD. If you pickup one these MKs in person, the quality and attention to detail is obvious. The quality of the woods used is top-notch. The fretwork and fingerboard finishing is top-notch. The finish and inlay work is top-notch. All of the hardware is top-notch. The setup and playability is excellent. Pickup a $2000+ Gibson LP and compare.

The only downside of these, or upside - depending... is resale value. I don't know what it is but they really never caught on. The upper bout is a bit preggy, maybe that's it. There is a Dean model that I'm almost positive uses the same core shape. Can't seem to get much selling them.

That's lower end than the Custom, but still. $250

Really digging the looks of that Patriot Custom and the BC Rich. Have to admit that I still have a little stigma against plywood, but I have seen examples that sound really good.

Samick SAT-650... $180 with original case.

Where? Yours? Looked it up and it does resemble the Robelli that changed my world and perception of just how good a cheap guitar could be. There is no doubt that Samick has the ability to make a world class archtop (hollow or semi) guitar. I've also heard that their more recent Greg Bennett Royale line is also very good and hangs with the real deal. Here's the SAT-650:

Classic Vibe 60s Strat here. My unquestioned and unequalled #1, and I paid around $270 for it new-in-box shipped via ebay.

After a setup, a Tusq nut, the Deaf Eddie Chromacaster switch and some better capacitors, this is the 2nd best playing/most versatile guitar I've ever owned.

It's amazing what one can find with a little luck, a little persistence and a few modifications after purchase.

Hey gdsmith, good on ya brother. It sounds like you definitely know what you're doing with those mods. I'm a little reluctant to delve into the electronic side too heavily as long as the controls do what they're supposed to. I'm a big fan of the tusq nut mod (use graphite sometimes) which I've done on most of my guits, even US made - I swear it adds to tone (even fretted) and sustain.

Truth is that I'd probably own one of those CV's if the neck was just a little meatier. Last time I played one at GC I think it beat out the MIM I compared it to and I definitely dug it's greasy gutbucket tone.

My bad. Yes, it was a Custom. They sell all over eBay for $499 OBO incl shipping. I got mine new for a $350 offer. Used is around the same or less. The resale is awful on them as nobody seems to know how good they really are. I had one and sold it and could only get $300 for it in same as new condition. Missed it and bought the one pictured. It is even better than the first one.

I don't buy many guitars new any more (which I assume the topic about and not high ends guitars you got a good deal on). the last 5 or 6 I built myself with another one on the way. I think the last new guitar I bought an Affinity Tele for $169.

If you like slim necks they are actually pretty good with a little work. No major issues and they sound good enough. I've had mine several years and have since replaces the bridge, tuners and frets with super jumbo. Oh and I put in a 4 way switch to get the extra pickup in series tone.

I did own a high end Fender Tele back in the 70's and I'd say this one isn't bad in comparison. The hardware is a bit cheesier and the frets didn't last very long, but nothing too hard to correct. Its also fairly light weight which makes it fin to play. I never bothered changing the pickups because they do give me a warmer cranked tone. I may try something more classic at some point but I do have other options for those tones.

I had a Robelli Eddy Durham. I wish I'd kept it. SA blew them out at $299. I saw one used recently for $450. Great guitars.

That looks like a sweet little Jazz guitar. Not quite the same as the 335 model but I'm glad to hear that another forumite has experienced the Sam Ash housebrand Robelli jazz boxes of yore. I somehow feel validated.

My view is that if you really love the guitar, get it, and don't worry about resale. Let them pry it from my cold dead hands and heirs can sell it. I have a Cort Sunset 1, which is a clone of a Gretsch Spectrasonic, TV Jones, Bigsby, Tonepros roller, Grover tuners, around $500 retail for just hardware. And the wood work is top notch too. Got it new for $650. Stinkingly amazing guitar but has that Cort name up there. I won't be selling that before my pre Fender Guilds, etc. If you love it, don't let it go.
