Members Johansolo
i love this pedal, and have recently re-integrated it back into one of my setups, but i've never actually made a demo clip of it, and since there's so many on the net...i decided to go for a different angle. [video=youtube;l7c0OXamWpY]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7c0OXamWpY Can you hear a difference?

Members V
Well the 24v definitely sounds brighter to me at the higher gain settings. Plus the LED is brigther!
Members booher
I want to say only a tiny difference with the gain at 3, but it only made a difference when jumping from 9v to 24v. And I'm really trying here. Otherwise, I don't think so.
Members Johansolo
yup...its very subtle...but there is a slight difference. there are a few people ive read go on about how it makes a huge diffrence at 18V/24V...so i wanted to go mythbuster style and proove otherwise
Members Blakemore Effects
That is a lot brighter than I remember mine being. I remember I used to almost crank the tone knob, and still think it sounded dark. Awesome pedal, but I could never get it to sound right. These all sound good though. Cool stuff, and I couldn't tell much of a difference. Not enough to care anyway. Thanks for doing this.

V1 was darker apparently, this is V2

Members krish
I used to run my Tube Zone at 18V and it definitely had a "bigger" sound about it, not sure I'm hearing it in this demo of the crunch box but I suppose that could be due to the ol' youtube compression. The change from 9V to 18V has a MASSIVE effect on my OCD though.

Ill c how it goes with trying to do a demo of my timmy and suhr shiba drive at 18v
Members 1001gear
The increasing numerals seem to affect the clarity and general brightness. Is the playing response any different between voltages?

Is the playing response any different between voltages? Slightly tighter/crisper as the volts increase

Members Mind_Riot89
Very interesting... I'm glad that someone made this video! I recently started running my Crunch Box at 9V again after running it at 12V and 18V previously. I prefer the more 'spongy' feel at lower voltages: I found it got a bit too solid-statey at higher voltages.

It's a great pedal but I just can't voice it the way I want, so I'm sticking with my OCD. I'll definitely be interested in seeing those other demos! Members IRG
I couldn't tell much difference, sounded good in any setting. You really have your volume cranked too, I wonder if that made any difference one way or another. I imagine hearing it in person you could hear the subtleties of the different voltages easier. Members RUExp?
I've been using my Crunch Box again for the past few days too. What amp are you using?
Members k tone
I loves me some Crunchbox. It was the only pedal that I have found that could truly replace the HM-2 that I have used for the last 20+ years (and I went through a few!). I want to try some other MI Audio offerings soon. Members ermghoti II
Running an OD at increased voltage primarily increases headroom. Dynamics will be far less obvious than changes in OD level or harmonic content, but very significant to the player, and/or effects later in the chain. Members macadood
anyone run their formula no 5 on 18v? does it make a big difference?
Members wartoxin
if all those voltages sound the same I think something is fishy...The circuit relies on the supply voltage being too low to the op amp(s) to avoid clipping. Increase the voltage to them and that changes. i don't see it having an effect on the led stage though, so I don't expect it to 'clean up'.If anything, you want a lower than 9v supply to get a more extreme sound. Members ermghoti II
anyone run their formula no 5 on 18v? does it make a big difference? I wouldn't expect good things from running a fuzz pedal at higher voltage. See my last reply, and the one above this one.
Members macadood
so then why the hell do they give you the option of it?? andreas, get in here!!! we need some of your expertise. what does running a pedal at higher voltage actually do?? Members wartoxin
what does running a pedal at higher voltage actually do?? absolutely depends on the pedal, if formula no 5 a fuzz?
Members mdrake34
I'm very interested in a crunch box. I typically play TGP/Mayer white guy blooz, except it sounds really {censored}ty, but I like having a higher gain distortion to mess with. Right now I run pedals into a clean amp, but I want to get the new Marshall Class 5 Mk II when it comes out, so I may just wind up boosting it to get higher gain tones.
