Members Y0UNGBL00D
i have never had an amp do this to me. like, "screw you, pedals!!!!" what is it like?
Members arthurdent'd
Orange. My R30 was a a pain to find dirt pedals for.
Members juri
Some cheap solid states don't have nice breakup and don't take certain drives or fuzzes very well they end up farting out, like a Vox pathfinder. Some high gain amps lack cleans and don't take pedals well either.

Exactly what I was going to post.My Orange AD30 is a nightmare when it comes to finding dirt pedals that work and I can't stand that it doesn't have an effects loop for delays/verbs. All of that becomes a non issue when you play one though because the voicing and feel of them is something of legend.
Members V
High gain amps in general are kinda mushy with pedals a lot of times. My Blues Jr was also pretty finicky with dirt pedals. Tended to get very muddy.
Members Holy Schnikes
My Orange RV 50 hated dirt pedals (probably cuz it needed no help with the gain) but it really sucked with mod and delay. Just mushy and distant sounding with hiss to boot. That said, I've got an OD15 now, another gain monster, and it loves all pedals.
Members Inspector 71
My Ampeg Jet II J-12t. I had trouble getting dirt pedals to work with it. The clean and reverb was awesome.

Members Dolf
This thread pretty much starts and ends with Orange That being said, I remember the Egnator Rebel 20 sucking ass with every dirt pedal I tried with it.
Members b_nehpets
i tried out an ad30 and a rv50 (both 2x12's) with my compressor and honey bee... the rv liked them and the ad did not. i was surprised that was not the other way around. Members ToonHollow
Yup, Orange AD30 only plays well with a few fuzzes and drives.
Members mmolteratx
Yea, my Thunderverb sucked hard with pretty much any dirt pedal. Input headroom wasn't great enough to handle pretty much any signal and it would get mushy/nasty. Sold it on relatively quickly. Though it looks like you've got one and thought differently so what do I know.
Members tronus
Matchless Avalon 30 hates almost every dirt pedal I've put in front of it... actually, none of them sounded quite right.
Members schandmann
Fixed-brightcap amps can be tricky with dirt, but I won't say they "don't take pedals".

Members tb_308
I clicked on this thread for the sole purpose of saying "Orange AD30." I was amazed how horrible it was actually... It did alright with TS-style pedals, Hotcake and OCD though. My Vicky loves pedals though
Members AidyCM
I've had terrible experiences with Orange amps and pedals, too. The dirty sounds on those amps are heavenly, but I haven't found a loop on any that I've used...
Members dkerwood
A lot of people would put Vox in this category as well. I ended up selling my Tech 21 Liverpool because of this. I don't think it's that they don't take pedals necessarily... rather that they require a completely different type of setting than the "Fender-y" type of amp, which throws a lot of people off. Members Y0UNGBL00D
My thunderverb50 takes dirt just fine and has a great fx loop but i guess it is voiced way differently than the Ad30s, R30s and RV50sim not as much in the fender amp camp as much as most of hcfx though. Members mhuxtable
Why would you use a dirt pedal with an AD30 when it has amazing crunch from the amp itself?
Members KoskineN
I don't like most of my dirt pedals with my Champ. Only ones that sounds ok are the Lunar Module set as a light OD, or my DLS clone also set low gain.

I think its because the ad has a more traditional "orange" tonestack/eq curve and the RV's and more "modern" oranges have a more fender/marshallish style eq/midrange that is more scooped and therefore plays along better with pedals. Members poolshark
Fine, I'll be the one to say it: Twin Reverb. Unless you're running loud enough to get natural tube compression - and split some eardrums in the process - most dirt pedals sound like a grainy, fizzy mess. Not sayin', just sayin'.
