Members Aristotle
(Edited by Phil to remove link - if you want to find it, it shouldn't be too hard, but I'd rather not have a link to it here on HC. Thread and discussion can remain open for now, but I don't want to see any disturbing images or links to suicide videos / photos please.) Not going to embed that. Open it at your own discretion. Shepard Smith's news show was following a live car chase. Guy runs out of his car and shoots himself in the head. Apparently there was no delay in the feed...so this aired live before the program was cut to commercial. So this begs the question: Do we have justification to be shocked? If you air/watch a car chase, isn't something like this to be expected?

Members cobalt-60
That's what happens when you go chasing human tragedy with a camera for mass entertainment. I find our culture very depressing.

Members Pedaltones
Why is simulated death and violence as entertainment generally accepted yet sex scenes cause such uproar in comparison? Would this would have stirred up a family-values hornets nest if the cameras had inadvertently broadcast a couple shagging outdoors as he tried to make good his escape? Members cobalt-60
Why is simulated death and violence as entertainment generally accepted yet sex scenes cause such uproar in comparison? Would this would have stirred up a family-values hornets nest if the cameras had inadvertently broadcast a couple shagging outdoors as he tried to make good his escape? I've come to two conclusions as to why people feel that way: 1) Our puritan ancestors 2) Young children inherently understand violence and pain, but sex is something they are typically sheltered from and may find disturbing. "Why is he hurting her?" etc. Wouldn't want to leave the kids alone, and find them trying to figure out what that couple was up to. Meanwhile, most kids have at least scrapped their knee and get blood comes out and it hurts a bit, so they know getting shot sucks. As for boobs? That's all number one. Fear of tits is stupid. I get not having pornographic material on during the day, that {censored} be distracting and offensive to old sacks, but after at least 9, there's no excuse for hiding that {censored}. Not only do other countries not give a {censored}, in many places throughout the world (Africa, of course) breasts are hardly even sexualized. I saw an interview with one of those Naked Natives tribes, and when they heard breasts were sexualized in America, the woman responded, "American men must be babies. Only babies like breasts". Big {censored}in' baby here.
