Hey everybody its update time.

Dustin is doing well. While he has had some GVH (Graft vs. Host) issues they seem to have been able to counter those effects with a regimen of meds. The GVH thing stuck most prominently and severely during Thanksgiving while we were down in VA visiting my family. They had recently begun to wean him off of some of his meds and adjusted dosages on several others with the steriod Prednosone being one of them.

His body said "WTF" and the GVH stuck it to him leaving him with red splotchy, burning, itchy skin over his entire body. It was bad enough that for 2 of the 5 days we were on vaca he was pretty much resigned to staying in bed being miserable. Sucks big time.

The Docs were called and made a couple of adjustments to his meds and called the changes in to the local pharm and he is all better now.

On to the bigger picture.....
Dustin has been released from the care of the Transplant specialists (GOD BLESS THESE PEOPLE) at Hackensack U med center. His levels and chems are all good and they (along with our insurance co i'm sure) are confident that Dustball's regular pediatric oncology staff can handle things from here on in. He will still be undergoing monthly spinal taps and bone marrow biopsies but these tests will be administered by his PED/ONC team rather than the Transplant folks.

He will visit the transplant team next summer at 1 year from the start of the transplant proccess.

In other news his Broviac port has been removed! This has been a point of frustration for him for a long time due to the difficulty it has presented. It's hard to shower with one, you have to saran wrap a good portion of your chest to keep contaminants out. The dressing must be changed weekly which is tough on a kid like Dustin who is more man at this point than kid and very ..um.."furry" you get the picture.
Here is what a port looks like:

Now that he has no port he has to endure getting stuck (multiple times usually due to his bad veins) for any bloodwork or transfusions but he hasn't needed a transfusion for a while now so I guess they thought it'd be better to get the thing out of him. Plus now he can go shirtless without being self concious about the tubes swinging out of his chest. Chicks do not dig swinging tubes sticking out of your chest.

We are cruising right along and I know things are going to continue to get better for Dustin. He rules and continues to be my hero.
pics to follow...

God bless you all and the happiest of Hanukkahs and merriest of Christmas' to you.
