What The Hell, Parker Guitars?!

Used to have a fly mojo. Was my main guitar till the frets started having issues. Even though the guitar was sent back to the USA and repaired, didn't want to risk it and traded mine later.

Like the new design a lot better now. No more horn to poke into your ribs while sitting down. No risk of frets falling off the board. Slightly bigger headstock for guitar hanging. Wished they had 2 humbuckers, 24 frets and inlays as an option. Wait that closely resembles guitars of another brand. OK bought my ibanez S5470 a year back :p

I never understood the gripe some players have with the original design - imho it's one of the classiest electric guitar designs made - beautiful, ergonimic, very recognizable. Add fantastic playability and light weight to that and you've got yourself a winner.

A lot of guitarists aren't really into "different", they want the same classic designs from years ago or at least something based closely on it. And then there's just people's differing tastes in general. :idk:

Personally I've never understood why people like Les Pauls. Yeah sure they look nice... playing-wise though, to me they're just a terrible design. :idk:

I agree. My LP, though I cherish it sentimentally and is a monster sonically, is one of my least favorite guitars to play.

I kinda fall into this trap myself - all the guitars I own either are, or are close cousins to the classic designs. I will say though that the only reason I don't have a Parker is because the right deal wasn't around when I had the cash, and vice versa - it's such a brilliant design. And I agree about the playability of LPs

How frequently do you use those highest-most frets? How important is the reshaped horn and headstock? Pick one.

I use the 24th fret quite a bit, actually. If you play songs by artists like John Petrucci or Chuck Shuldiner it isn't uncommon to need that fret.

Also, I like the original Parker. In fact it was always my dream guitar; right from the day I first discovered them. But, to note just how much I care about any guitar's shape I point out that when I finally had the cash to buy a Parker I ended up discovering the Music Man JP6, which just so happened didn't have a horn jabbing me in the chest. It has an ultra comfortable body, like the Parker; it has a super thin and super fast neck, like the Parker; it has a unique bridge, like the Parker; it has a piezo option, like the Parker. But, it also has NO HORN JABBING ME IN THE CHEST!

Finally the makers of my dream guitar fix the one and only issue I ever had with the Parker Fly and they STILL deny me by dumbfoundingly leaving out two frets.

Don't think that I don't know why they did that, though. Clearly they make one mass produced neck and slap it on all of their redesigned guitars. They don't want to make an alternative and drive up manufacturing costs. But, why the holy hell didn't they make that one neck with twenty four frets to begin with?! Same goes with their single cut design.

I once had the chance to buy this model hard tail (a real one) a few years back. I wish I had.

[The link posted goes to a seller in China selling knock off instruments. Not scamming, per se, just actual knockoffs - as the price denotes. I almost want to get one so that I can use it as a template for building one myself.]

I'd love an original design Fly. It's ONE guitar with a finished neck (on the back) that I've played that I just absolutely couldn't put down.

There was a used one in my local shop that just sat and sat and sat, and nobody ever bought it. When I finally started making enough money to afford it, it was gone...

And Mario... NO FAIR posting headstock pics when you know damn well you have the most beautiful fly most people have ever seen!

Seems like the original design is either love it or hate it. I was never a fan, but I do like the new design a lot better. I wonder if they'll use that as a platform for anything like the Parker Adrian Belew model? The features of that model are about the ultimate of any guitar ever - at least for me: Sustainiac, built-in Roland synth pickup, Variax technology, piezo pickup, and Duncan humbucker. An awesome convergence of technology. Too bad they sell for around $8,000!

Wow, I was expecting to get absolutely killed for that comment here.:o

They should reissue that, just with a different headstock and pickups. I dig the body shape.

As for the Parker, the horn was a bit silly looking but it matched the headstock better. They really should've met the original and the new one in the middle. Now the new one reminds me of some Schecter models just with a different headstock.

The only reason I don't have a Parker is the price. The cheaper models just don't have the features that make the Parker what it is and the high end models are more than I am prepared to pay for a guitar no matter how good it might be.

Look for a used one. You can get one just like mine for around $1500. That's not "cheap", but it beats $4k for a new one.

I have one of the cheaper import Parkers, the P36, I got for $499 at Best Buy (!?!). Love it. Never had issue with it sticking me in the chest. Like that horn, doubles as carrying handle. I agree that the look is not like other guitars, but with a bit of Pavlovian conditioning or whatever you can grow to love it.

I also judge a guitar by how it plays, not if I can hang it on the wall. Would be nice if it fit my wall hanger, but not a deal breaker for me.
