Members catscurlyear
i like it ,bet you hate it if people say this but i mean it is a compliment,it reminds me of early 70`s zappa , i would have maybe broke up the free jazz bit with a killer groove in there then gone back to it . i enjoyed listening. Members aliensporebomb
How THe hell did miss this??? This is some of the best stuff i have ever heard posted on the music forums and stuff.. man.. it really reminds me of some of Trevor Rabins kinda solo efforts. harmonizers, filters great guitar playing... really cool sound scapes and just really good solid stuff... really really good stuff!! thanks for posting up... Yeah, I also agree that it's fantastic. I hear a little Rabin, a little Fripp and a little Hillage and a little Ozric Tentacles too. I'd love to hear a full CDs worth of that stuff. Members aliensporebomb
this one that belongs in the AG thread.. lots of weid frippian kinda delays and gated verbs.. played on the first electric i ever owned... just some werid pentatonic kinda idea i have been goofing around with.. bit blatty on parts , levels way too high. Fripp to China >headphones... http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=966294&songID=10629113 I like this - it totally conjures the atmosphere on the first Fripp and Andy Summers project "I Advanced Masked". Same spacey ambient feel, clean overlapping guitar tones and hypnotic aspect. I'd like to hear more in that vein!
Members aliensporebomb
never really noticed there was a thread for this. here's some of my song ideas I've put down. the first one is a finished song, the others are all "abbreviated" versions to try to put ideas down. a couple of them lack verse lyrics or.. suck, or maybe they all suck. p.s. not a singer or claim to be, just don't have anyone better yet. this song is full length: http://www.scumvalley.com/misc/mdre-f.mp3 these are abbreviated song concepts: http://www.gulchcomic.com/workstuff/stay.mp3http://www.scumvalley.com/misc/explode-s.mp3http://www.gulchcomic.com/images/ridesordies2b.mp3http://www.gulchcomic.com/images/windpipe2.mp3http://www.gulchcomic.com/images/stars.mp3 I dig the first one - it's almost got an early REM meets King's X feel although that's kind of a poor comparison - the heavy and light parts go together nice. For me I also have a hard time singing at all so I have to tip my hat and say good job on the singing.

Members Bucksstudent
I think there's something to be said about Experimental versus Avant Garde. I take an Experimental stance with most of my music, and generally find my Avant Garde material to be pretty bad. I know it's hard to believe, but I find much of my material to be bad, but there is someone out there who enjoys it most of the time. I would actually like to make a listenable noise rock/Avant Garde album at some point. I have an Avant Garde Jazz album called Serial that definitely fits the mold of said genre, but I find it intolerable: http://patricka.a.wiki-site.com/index.php/Serial Most of my albums are available via download here: http://patricka.a.wiki-site.com/index.php/Albums If there is one album/project that may be considered Avant Garde in my discography that I enjoy, it's Disarming: http://patricka.a.wiki-site.com/index.php/Disarming I recently watched a BBC documentary that had similarly produced music. I was experimenting with both noise and stereo effects with a little Ambient thrown in. If anyone is wondering what the difference is between Experimental music and Avant Garde, or just how I distinguish the two, the former is based more on structure and a realistic sense of music, while Avant Garde is an attempt to do something completely new. I'd call No-Wave an Avant-Garde genre, while I'd refer to Brian Eno's 1970's albums as Experimental. Sonic Youth straddles the line for sure. Members Chordite
Welcome back. Eno was my main influence through art school, we shared a lot of the same fascinations. I also regarded myself as a "non musician" at the time and basically created soundscapes for my films. I have tried to write songs but the come out "corny" I am happier in Tangerine Dream "Phaedra" territory, evoking mood.

As you know this is not my type of music at all. How can you write something that you find intolerable? Or is it SO experimental that thats the nature of it? Members Bucksstudent
Things are okay. For the first time in almost a decade, I am not going through a bout of depression each day/week. Ironically, because my depression killed much of my empathy, I was able to get over it and equalize because of my lack of empathy lately. I'm not a happy person, but I'm not miserable either. You don't know a song is bad when you write it most of the time, or at least I don't. Reputable actors star in bad movies all the time, but they don't necessarily know the final product will be bad. Plus, when you get a high off creativity, it flows either way. Sometimes it's incredible, and others it's complete crap. I admit to having plenty of crap, but I also have gems in my output too. Oddly enough, some people have enjoyed things that I hated after the fact. Experiments are like dripping paint onto a canvas. Not everyone is Jackson Pollock, and not everyone likes Jackson Pollock, but you occasionally drip the paint just the right way that it resonates with people. I mean, I've recorded over thirty albums by now, and there are only a few that I consider good from start to finish. I'd say nine of the thirty-two main records are complete crap. You learn from your mistakes and try to do better the next time. The nature of Experimental art is that some experiments fail, so you have to approach things with an open mind each time. Also, I think my best albums came out of bad periods in my life, so the bad ones usually come from stagnant periods where I'm not inspired by an emotion. When I approach things in a calculating manner, it usually sounds like it. When I let the feelings flow, you can usually hear what I'm going through at the time. I appreciate even the bad albums for this aspect, because they're like diaries for me. Because of my recent breakdown and inner turmoil, I forgot a lot of my past, so I can listen back and figure out what I was doing wrong and right as both a musician and a person. Lately, I'm generally bored with music. I spend more time reading.
