Members Anderton Posted April 16, 2016 Members Posted April 16, 2016 And while we're on the subject of 50s stars who died in plane crashes, "Oh Donna" by Ritchie Valens.
Members blue2blue Posted April 16, 2016 Members Posted April 16, 2016 Patricia - Guthrie Trapp Angeline/Mambo Cheeks - Guthrie Trapp Guthrie is my new favourite guitar player. Give these a listen, he may become yours too. Wow! Not just another pretty face. Talk about fluid drive. Fine backup, too! His version of "Patricia" shares a common vibe with Manuel Galban and Ry Cooder's version of the Perez Prado tune, but, dang, he makes a convincing challenge on their own turf. Some kind of player! I'm only finding one album (2012, Pick Peace). Anything else out there?
Members onelife Posted April 16, 2016 Members Posted April 16, 2016 At the moment, Pick Peace is the only one I'm aware of. I bought it and highly recommend it. Every time I listen to it I just think wow, is that guy ever good. There are some things on youtube that are worth watching. He does an interview with a Nashville TV show which is really good. There are also some intructional videos you can search out - I recall watching one where he talks about his passion for Hendrix' rhythm playing and does some demonstrations.
Members 1001gear Posted April 16, 2016 Members Posted April 16, 2016 He's got a sig OD out I wouldn't mind owning.
Members 1001gear Posted April 16, 2016 Members Posted April 16, 2016 I have a half dozen or so more mainstream tunes I'll mete out if nobody gets to 'em. Josie Peg
Members Mandolin Picker Posted April 16, 2016 Members Posted April 16, 2016 "Bringing Mary Home" - The Country Gentlemen If you can't play this song, you can't call yourself a bluegrass band!
Members onelife Posted April 17, 2016 Members Posted April 17, 2016 "Mariah" - This version is by the Smother's Brothers Excellant! Thanks for posting. Tom Smothers played the fool on that show but his musicianship was never in question. Not wanting to derail the thread but here's the bit where they "go electric" ... [video=youtube;kd2Mei-SihI] (the electric bit is about five minutes in if you want to skip to it)
