Members Stackabones
. . . . . Stack don't tell me that you do all of those from memory. You mind must be a cavern! Maybe a bit rusty on a handfull. But that list is fairly current. Some will drop off by the summer and others will take their place. If I don't have to sing, I know a whole bunch more. In a band I've played with on and off for a decade and a half, I think we have about five or six or more hours of music. Even more when we regularly gigged. The singer in that band knows a crazy amount of music. Lyrics and chords and whatnot. He kinda freaks me out. I'm small change compared to him. And then there's those songs that you don't have to know ... they just follow a common pattern and maybe have a stranger thrown in here or there. Just gotta bend your ear the right way. Members Stackabones
Hey stackabones - you always do your sets in alphabetical order? How cool is that! Nah, I just keep a master list of sorts. Some gigs I take that to gigs and then peck and poke, but I prefer to organize my sets in other ways. Actually, my set would work as an electric set as well. Members daklander
I have over 400 songs in my overall base though a large number have slipped out of regular rotation. If something comes up that needs any of those It's just a short time to get back up to speed on them. The normal song book I have at gigs is a three ring binder with heavy duty page protectors. I have the title and first line of the song. The pages are laid out with 20 songs to the page so when the book is open on a stand 40 songs are showing and I it's one flip to open up another 40, flip again for another 40, and holds 120 songs at this time.I generally run 45 minute sets with a 15 minute break but usually play longer and normally take shorter breaks. If the show is on, the audience is really into it and the whole thing is electric I've played over 2 hours without a break, other than to have a sip of water or other libation. This partial list will cover 3 to 4 hours with not too much trouble, depending on the audience, how much chat and interaction is going on and how long the breaks are. Two songs on it are recent learns and have not been gigged, other than the VOM and private parties. Members kwakatak
Yeah, lots of great songs here. I usually just stick to a dozen or so and try to refresh my memory whenever I find that I miss playing a particular song. Right now I've been playing a lot of: Trouble - Ray LaMontagneHold You In My Arms - Ray LaMontagneTears in Heaven - Eric ClaptonWild World - Cat StevensFalling Slowly - Glen Hansard/Marketa IrglovaHeart of Gold - Neil Young People Get Ready - Curtis MayfieldMy Cathedral - Chris Rice (I got recruited to sing this one in church and using the chord sheet on the piano music I figured out where to put my fingers on the fretboard)I Can Only Imagine - MercyMe (another song I learned for church but stuck with me) Prodigal - Casting Crowns (yet another church song that I like) Who We Are - Bill Deasy (a local Pittsburgh musician who I follow)The Gift of Seeing Through - Bill Deasy The Heart of the Matter - Don HenleyAlive - Pearl JamBlack - Pearl JamElderly Woman Behind A Counter In A Small Town (or some such) - Pearl Jam And about 5 or 6 originals in various stages of composition that I just play to groove to.
