Members elsupermanny14
I'm just curious guys. How many of you play heavier music but only through a combo amp? I'm looking to buy a new amp by the end of the summer and I tend to play heavier music but from previous threads I've posted I'm beginning to think that maybe getting a nice tube stack might be too much. Anyways I grew up with the impression that heavy music was played on bigger amps like the Mesa Rectifiers and such. So I'm just curious...? Members samuraiBSD
I only own an AD30VT from Vox, but I play punk and the occasional metal piece

Members abstract
I play pretty much exclusively thru a Reissue Bassman. LOTSA pedals.
Members GodBlessTexas
5150 2x12 w/V30's will do metal just fine.
Members EMG_GUY
Right Here. I usually use my line 6 spider 3 2x12, but lateley Ive been using a trayner tube combo with a 2x12 plugged into it. works great for me. Im thinking of getting a trayner. Very good production at crazy low prices.

Members Venkmanologist
I play through a Crate GFX212T 2x12 120 watt combo. Good modern heavy tones to be had. It also has a very miniscule effects section on it, but I only use the reverb effect from that.I've had this amp for about 6 years, and even when I got it it was a clearance item. It's been great for gigging, since every show I've played my amp has been mic'd.Good luck on your purchase!
Members Exdeath
Mesa combo. More than enough. If you want the stack image, get a combo and a 1x12 cab. Leave the cab empty if you want.
Members Sic666
I got a marshall all tube combo and I play hardcore on it.Works like a charm.
Members Jimmy310
I recently got one of those $99 raven 20w 12" speaker combos. kinda sound inbetween a marshall/mesa. the cleans are nice, but it shares its eq with the dirty channel too. The distortion is way better than a line 6 spider!
Members Fine_Young_Fool
I want to play heavy stuff but my 1x12`s lack of bass is frustrating.
Members Clarknova
I play through a Blues DeVille with a Les Paul through either a Big Muff or a Boss Metal Zone. The Amp itself gets a real nice chrunch at 5. I've gone as high as high as 7 on the thing and nearly felt like my heart was gonna burst.
Members Darkstorm
10" bass combo amps with guitar going thru whatever processor or pedals of choice first, makes for very excellent full range sound system. AS can stuff like a pair of KRK or MAudio etc powered studio monitors. If you feed them ready for recording tone as created by whatever processor. Which of course then goes to the monitors directly or thru a mixer. For the latter your essentially doing small version of playing thru a very nice clubs PA. Though such powered monitors arent generally suitable for jamming with a drummer, a small 30-50 watt 1x10 bass combo amp similiarly fed, can be. Members wyldesigns
Did a couple of stand in shows for my friend in his metal band (In Flames / Sentenced / Breed 77) with a Classic 50, mi audio TUBEZONE and Boss GE-7.

Members LaXu
Diezel Einstein 1x12 combo. The nearly-closed back combo has nice bottom end. I have it on a chair because on the floor it has way too much lows. Personally I don't feel that you need anything beyond a 1x12 or 2x12 for most situations. The right amp in the right cab and right speaker can sound huge. I think a lot of people just go past the 1x12s and 2x12s without even trying because they're in the mindset that they NEED a 4x12. Members songsforbears
I "only" own a Twin Reverb amp, but the stereotypes don't hold. You can get outstanding heavy tones out of it with a Boss MD-2. Bring on the flaming, but it works.
Members Cliff Fiscal
I prefer the combo to the full stack......Actually, the best combo is a 2x12 and the head.......easy to carry, you can change cabs, and you can add cabs if need be. Right now I have a Vendetta Combo, and a Jubilee Combo.....both sound great.....
Members Brick
yup picking up a recto soon and a 2x12, 4x12's are a huge pain in teh ass
Members Kramerguy
I play everything from sabbath to maiden, to AIC, to rage, to modern heavy. So far I only use combos. If you are using a pedal array for all your distortions, then the marshall has a GREAT clean channel, but the fx and overdrive channels are {censored}. If you want an amp that does it all, the most variety will probably be the line6 spider III, or most general fender amps, although I have personally lost all my faith in fender reliability.
