Members Richard King
I've been in Florida since 1996. This is the coldest winter that I have experienced since moving here. Citrus and other crops are being destroyed over the whole state. I have no heat in the house (haven't filled the propane tank since my first year here). The inside temp right now is 55. I've got a fire in the fireplace and a couple space heaters running. I think I'll move back to Minnesnowta where it's supposed to be cold. I think it's probably newsworthy, if for no other reason than to shut up the "global warming" crowd. Nice avatar. Could you send her down here to keep me warm? Members coyote-1
They always talk about "wind chill" in wintertime because it sounds much colder that way. I don't want to know wind chill, I want the actual temperature! Tell me that and projected wind speeds and I can get through the day just fine. Unfortunately, too many people confuse weather with climate. I think it's probably newsworthy, if for no other reason than to shut up the "global warming" crowd. Nice avatar. Members Richard King
I have no problem in distinguishing between "weather" and "climate". If not for the various monetary grants to "study" global warming, there wouldn't be "global warming". It's a natural cycle, not man made.

Members TimOBrien
I don`t get it, its freaking winter! Its supposed to be cold. So why is CNN flipping out? Maybe because it's 40 degrees below normal here in Florida. It was 26 degrees here in West Palm Beach over the weekend. There were SNOW FLURRIES as far south as Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Kendall (a suburb of MIAMI). It was 2 degrees above freezing in CUBA. There were 1200 RECORD COLD TEMPS broken in the US this last month. And we're not due for our normal coldest week of the month for another 2 weeks yet...... I used to live in West Palm in the seventies. It would get down to freezing at least once a year. They'd turn on the sprinklers in the orange groves to protect the fruit. It has always been this way. Members boxorox
It's been drought condition wth mild winters here for so long people thought this year was "severe weather". It's really just pretty normal. It did get colder earlier and for a longer period of time, but nothing outside norms. As to the news, meteorologists are the newsroom geeks. They enjoy extreme weather events and tend to milk them for all they're worth. It's the only time they get attention and respect. Hurricanes, blizzards... Man, they even get the mobile broadcast units. They get the opening story slot, the updates on commercial breaks. Of course they're going to terrorize us. Cut 'em some slack. It's the only time they get to be heroes.

Members Thrashy
That is ok, they closed schools in our area on thursday.....before it even snowed any. It's not like i'm in the south either, it's freakin Ohio. They must be afraid of someone sliding into a school bus because there was not any reason, roads were fine. They don't even have the little clicky thing to change the slides anymore. That's all done off-camera by some IT geek.
