An idea I had was,...if I could find a chick singer who was familiar with these older songs, and would want to do them, is,...to Van Halenize a bunch of the early 60's girl-type songs.

 

Leader of the Pack-Shangrilas might've have been one of them.

LOL, She's not the kind of woman that needs to be asked what she wants. She asked for 5 new possibilties each and with a little help from my friends I have 30 some. :thu:

OK- I'll give you my suggestions.

 

1. Dig into the Pretenders catalog. Back on the chain gang, brass in pocket, etc...

2. Do "Only the Lonely" by the Motels. It's a great song that people forget they have already heard

3. "Shelter" by Lone Justice

4. "Voices Carry" by 'Til Tuesday (Aimee Mann)

5. "Sweet Jane" (Cowboy Junkies version)

6. "Time after Time" by Cyndi Lauper - check out some of her low-key acoustic versions online

 

Those are all crowd pleasers.

My band has a female lead singer. It is a lot of fun. We find that most of the music we have chosen isn't originally sung by a woman. If she is open to this, check out The Offspring for newer stuff. Their songs are popular and have pretty good hooks and guitar parts. His range is actually to high for our singer!

 

Some of the songs we do that were originally sung by a woman include:

Kerosene and Gunpowder and Lead by Miranda Lambert

Bring Me Some Water by Melissa Ethridge

I Hate Myself For Loving You by Joan Jett

Shut Up and Kiss Me by Mary Chapin Carpenter

 

You could also look at Linda Ronstadt for some ideas.
