The Hollow Guitar

Here is mine - A 2008 Hamer Newport. Solid maple cap, mahogany body and a set of Duncan Seth Lovers. I love this guitar. It has a very articulate, but mellow sound that is great clean and overdriven. The build quality, as expected from a USA Hamer, is perfect.

Perfect? Could happen.

Sweet.

Saw the Gibson Midtown today! Pretty cool. The one I saw was a nice vintage sunburst. They even carry the burst to the back. :thu:
Very nice guitar all around. Feels, sounds and plays about like a Les Paul to me. Maybe a tad lighter. The back was two pieces and the top was three. It looks neat, but a little odd as you're used to seeing center seams on tops. The top is about 1/4" thick. It's thinner than a 335. The neck is nice. I think they call it a slim neck, but it's bigger than the one on my Junior for sure. Nice to see binding all around, even on the headstock.
I looked but couldn't find any of the infamous qc issues. it was very nicely made. For the features it offers, I think the price is damn good for a Gibson Memphis guitar. $1500.
I think gibson may have hit upon something good here.

Oh, and the composite fingerboard is really nice.
My only complaint is maybe the binding is TOO white. Other than that, it was sweet.

My first guitar with large interior voids, though only semi Hollow. 1979 Guild SF4. It's almost entirely maple, which combined with the pup voicing, gives a full but snappy sound.

The bridge is really interesting, and at first seems overly complicated but it's a great design. It's sort of a roller bridge, but the roller saddles roll along a threaded shaft allowing for the adjustment of string spacing. It also keeps in tune wonderfully.

I finally got a Guild for myself (about a year or so ago...)

Love these hollows. The 175 really isn't my thing. It's nice occaisionally, but it needs to be with a collector or serious jazz musician. I'm either going to sell outright or maybe shop around for a comparable value LP Jr for trade. The Electra and Howard are more suitable to my style so I'll probably hang onto them for awhile....

Hey guys  I bring my mystery hollowbody, Jane, to the table.

For those who haven't read my thread, I found this thing in my attic behind furniture that hadn't been touched in years. Turns out that it was my dads first guitar, probably got it around 1965.
I cleaned her up, got some new strings and threw them on. My dad heard me playing this from across the house, on a different floor, and first thought I was playing electrically with one of my guitars.

Maybe tomorrow I'll get some pictures of my Gretsch up on this thread.. Well here's Jane

Operation 5th Avenue begins! The pickups are ordered, so I'm beginning prep work.
I had installed an endpin jack the first time around, but decided I want a regular jack. The endpin jack prevents use of a straplock. I removed the endpin jack and plugged the hole with a dowel and put the factory pin back in place.
Then measured VERY carefully and drilled a 3/4" hole and two pilots and installed a regular LP style jack.

All parts on order now. A pair of A3 low output dogears, bourns mini pots and some braided shield hookup wire.

Glued some reinforcement shims inside the body behind the output jack screws and where the pots will go next to the F hole.

Selected a piece of walnut for the new pickguard and got it traced out.

Now I need more parts!

Are you going to start another thread, or document all of the mods in here? Also, which P90s? BG?
