I played almost exclusively swing for many years before getting back into rockin' type stuff, but I still love it. I only got out of it for lack of opportunities; it's still my favorite to play. Mostly played snare and bass drum, but I was badass on the quints. The last two years of high school I Marched with an electric guitar with a freshman flunky marching behind me with a battery powered amp on a hand truck.
