Members maplebaby
anyone play in this configuration - one voice/one guitar? I'm particularly interested in the playing side - what do you do or what is your thought process in such a 'scaled down' format?
Members garthman
Well I do . . . . . . . . .but the one voice and one guitar are both mine
Moderators daddymack Posted June 25, 2017 Moderators Share Posted June 25, 2017 we do have a solo & duo forum, btw, with a number of people who do this type of arrangement. Personally, I don't like splitting the paycheck with someone who only sings...so I do both as well.
Members DeepEnd
Sounded good as usual but I'm with garthman. I usually play and sing. Several years ago I played and sang a duet with another guy on a Christmas song I wrote but that's as close to what you're talking about as I've ever come. Members catscurlyear
i`d definitely need a singer with me .I`ve done that configuration before a few times, we got some nice harmonies going. i wish i had a strong vocal like some of the guys on here and i would do it solo at the drop of an hat.no arguments with song choice eitheryou are sounding good by the way and Lauren has a great voice. Members DeepEnd
Based on your VOM entries, you have a better voice than you think. A duet partner might be an option in your case. I find that I sing stronger if I'm singing with someone.
Members Delmont
I usually sit in the audience and let other people do the singing AND playing.

Members DeepEnd
Just remembered. Back in college I was approached by three girls who sang, to be their accompanist since none of them played anything. We had one practice and then the group fell apart. Members DeepEnd
No, it happened just the way I described. The girls were friends of mine (one was my ex girlfriend) and they wanted to sing Christian stuff as a group but none of them played. They asked me and I was up for it but nothing happened beyond that one rehearsal.
Members strayGoat
Great performance, as always. Ms. Mink has some killer pipes. Of course I'm biased, as an acoustic guitar freak, but just a voice and a guitar is always my favorite format - whether the vocals and guitar are performed by a single person or a duet. That's not at all to say that I have anything against a band/ensemble; there are many that I love greatly. But there's just kind of a different feel altogether to a simple voice and guitar arrangement - something uniquely straightforward and intimate between the musician(s) and the listener. Best example I can think of offhand is Kelly Joe Phelps, who also happens to be my favorite guitar player.
Members Matthias Hornstein
Although i prefer to play the guitar and sing by myself, once in a while i like to sing a duet with another singer while playing guitar.Pretty cool what you can do with just 2 voices and 1 instrument! Members DeepEnd
I was reminded this morning that we have a couple at church who do exactly what you're talking about. She sings and he plays, although she sometimes plays percussion.
