Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted September 23, 2016 Moderators Share Posted September 23, 2016 I've been asked to do a Strat with tone for the neck, tone for the bridge and no tone for the middle. Know ye of such a scheme? I've never come across one
Members mrbrown49
I think you just have to move the wire that goes to the second tone pot down one lug on the switch.
Members badpenguin
Depends on the switch. use a multi meter to see which lug is active in the bridge pickup setting, then wire the tone pot there, instead of the mid.
Members onelife
You could simply connect the tone pots to the same lugs of the switch as their respective pickups. I use 4P5T pickup selector switches in my strats which allows any possible configuration. I use one tone control for the two outside positions of the switch (1,5) and the other tone control for the there middle positions (2,3,4). One of my strats is setup to have all three pickups on in the centre position.

Members MarvelUndies
Everyone seems to have the right idea here and definitely knows more about this than I do, but my suggestion would be to go with a master tone control. I did consider looking at Les Paul wiring, but the switch would be no good for a Strat and I wouldn't know how to substitute it. Anyway, that's just my two cents. For a friend/customer, I would listen to everyone else. I wouldn't want to ruin the aesthetic nor defy the customer's specifications
Members badpenguin
The issue is, it isn't his guitar. I would do the same, and add a switch that allows neck and bridge, and all three on, using the spare hole.
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted September 25, 2016 Author Moderators Share Posted September 25, 2016 For myself and most people I do the master volume, master tone and no load blend pot scheme, but this guts a giggling muso with this particular request
Members garthman
I've never seen the point in having one of the PUs without a tone control. What do you gain? When I owned a strat I wired it so the second tone knob worked for the middle and the bridge (just soldered a small piece of wire to connect the switch lugs). PS. I sold the strat and bought a Yamaha Pacifica 112 instead
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted September 27, 2016 Author Moderators Share Posted September 27, 2016 I wire all my Strats with master tone, master volume and blend pot. Having said that I'd like to try this to see what it sound like, I've always found a middle position with single coils to have very pleasant acoustic properties
Members Ancient Mariner
Did you wire it in the end, and did you just move the tone control wire from middle to bridge? I did try that once (actually tone on bridge & middle, neck no tone) but now I always do like - master tone + blend pot.
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted October 17, 2016 Author Moderators Share Posted October 17, 2016 No, when I spoke to his Dad whose guitar it was, he said leave it as standard, I'm not entirely sure everybody is as critical as we are about Leo's original controls😐
Members Ancient Mariner
I could never really use a strat bridge PU without rolling some of the bite out, but they obviously work for some people (and there are 4 other settings that one can use).
