MXR BLUE BOX = novelty or usefull?

been offered a blue box as a trade for one of my pedals im selling.

 

never used one in person. heard some demos on the web...

 

thoughts on this pedal?

ive had one and got offered another recently, i turned it down, dont know why they still make em. ive never seen anyone use one. cept Pagey

had one, I liked it when I tried it out in the shop. But then I sold it , since it had a big volume drop (removing C11 helped a bit, and made it not so dark-sounding), had sort of a gate built-in and all in all, was not very interesting.

The one i tried had a really horrible bypass too. The effected signal was bleeding through somehow.

It's a one trick pony, unusable in a band setting because it doesn't cut through. You can kindof reproduce that tone with the 2 octaves down setting on the Whammy.

 

But it's fantastic if you make noise using feedback loops. If I would make more noise, I'd buy one again.

it is a 1 trick... and usually needs a fuzz/dirt signal added to it for useability.... stack it

Considering it's only been used popularly for the ugly-butt solo on 'Fool in the Rain', the Blue Box sure has had a long lifespan. Kind of like leprosy.

 

Perhaps Thurston Moore could do something with it, but I sure as {censored} couldn't.

Had one, and it sounded nice on it's own, but yeah, the volume drop (even with the C11 mod) motivated me to get rid of it...

a true classic piece of {censored}. I had a script logo one that I pawned years ago, didn't even go back to get it. it does one thing and that one thing is completely useless unless you cover "fool in the rain".
