MXR BLUE BOX = novelty or usefull?

The other guitarist in my band uses one and loves it. For my sub-octave shenanigans I use a POG2 and LBM which I think sounds better.

a true classic piece of {censored}. I had a script logo one that I pawned years ago, didn't even go back to get it. it does one thing and that one thing is completely useless unless you cover "fool in the rain".

the blue box is rather small so I'd imagine standing inside the box would be rather limiting

It's fun but MASSIVE volume drop and one- trick pony- ness means its not really very useful for anything musical. Besides glitchy gameboy sounds.

i've got one, it sounds neet in a feedback loop. The gate doesn't shut because there is a constant signal. Other than that, i've got no use for it.

But I hated the Bluebox. Avoid.

I had one for a while. I thought it was cool. I found some uses for it, and din't have any trouble with a volume drop.

 

But it "popped" every time I switched it on and off. That lead to me selling it for something else.

I'd like to have one again though.

i like mine. yeah there is a huge volume drop sometimes but it depends on where you put it in your chain. when i had a buffered pedal before and after it i didnt notice any volume drop.

If you want one based off I'd PGS demos I recommend the glitch computer by mid fi electronics. Basically the same guy with tons of volume on tap and an extra control to get the most out of the glitchy-ness or make it smooth and somewhat musical.

 

If the blue box didn't have that volume drop it would be totally awesome.

if you think using an MXR blue Box is "thinking outside if the box", then good for you. I try to "play" outside the box, I don't rely on pedals (especially that one dimensional pos) to do it for me.

I like the MXR Bass Octave (two knobber) It's badass with guitar clean or mixed with Fuzz.

I like that kind of effect, but there are others that do it much better with more versitiliy. The Mid Fi Glitch Computer was already mentioned, the Mid Fi Random Number Generator is cool too. Noise Swash can go there and back a million times and get way crazier. MI Audio Pollyanna is great as well.
