Members Ryan.
the reporter doesn't know dog behavior obviously...neither does that cop. he leans over the top of that dog as he moved in...that's an aggressive behavior to a dog when it comes from a stranger. especially with German Sheppards. They already have a tendency towards human aggression. Pit Bulls have the exact opposite....a tendency towards human affection. That's not to say if someone came running up on my dog it wouldn't react. But that's what I'm there for as the owner...to the be source of protection & leadership for my dog. We can go tit for tat all day long man. So I don't get why your skirt is all blown up? I say I wouldn't get one because its not a risk I'll accept, and I say that I don't care that you get one because you're making an informed choice and accepting that a bite may occur. Why does that make pit owners mad?
Members thom
I've got two dogs, love the {censored}ers to death... But I don't trust 'em 200% in every possible situation, even though they're pretty well trained, and I'm not exactly a noob...They're not humans, that's impo one of the most common and most dangerious mistakes a lot of people make. Hell, there's not even many -if any- humans I trust 200% in every possible situation/circumstances...

Members V-man
Like ALL dogs, you have a 3 part equation: 1. Dog's behavioral tendencies as a breed 2. Dog's personality (the individual) 3. Dog's nurture (Dog's handling/handler) What makes a Pitbull dangerous to the public is what makes most "sporting breeds" heavier than 60 pounds dangerous... their capacity to do damage to a person if they attack. Making up a statistic on the spot, and I would say that (conservatively) 2 out of 3 dog owners are ill-equipped to properly handle a dog, whether from selecting the right breed for their environment, failure to educate themselves about the breed, and/or {censored}ing stupidity. We don't talk about "yip" dogs due to their dimished capacity to do damage, but the same sort of idiots buy and mishandle those dogs as well. More often than not, the root of the problem stems from the people (mis)handling the dog. Pits need extra attention due to their strength and their natural tendency to be DOG aggressive. They are not people aggressive by breed (though a bad personality OR bad handling can change that). I am a dog person, but not a fan of pits for my own tastes (prefering shepherds myself). That said, the idiocy behind villifying these breeds will be the seeds that outlaw dogs over 50 pounds in households in the future. First the pits then (when the ghetto/trailer trash adapts to another breed) Rotts, and so on. Even if the legislation doesn't move forward, the insurance premiums will, making certain breeds available exclusively to the property owners who can afford the premiums (or deem the love of the breed above getting homeowner's insurance). Perhaps if this society isn't willing to hold the stupid accountable then this may be what needs to happen (as with other things).

Members melx
thats exactly what pitbulls have done in the past. and with this specific breed an attack doesnt often end with a small wound, it ends in mutilation or death. thats the point. that is exactly the point ... which is the riskiest? ... get into a cage with a well trained lion or a totally untrained rabbit? Members tattoedsailor
As I stated I got 1 pit that's a trained therapy dog.. Shes big baby. The other is Akita/PB mix 80lbs.. He had his nutts cut off at a late age. So yeah he's aggressive toward other dogs, but not towards people. He can be real {censored}er on the leash when he see's another dog. I don't blame that on breed I blame on previous owners. He's type of dog that you gotta have real responsible owner.

Members thom
{censored} dude, the shoulder muscles on that dog are gnarly as {censored}. I'm sure my dog could {censored} him up though. Since this thread seems to get ugly anyway, I might as well further derail it and lighten thing up with some random pics:) Anyway, my dog's a rather small and light weight bitch, the average boerboel is a lot bigger and beefier. My dog's father might have had something to do with those muscles though: They're among the smallest and most athletic mastiffs with -as far as I know- no history in hunting/war/fighting. The breed is relatively young, and was originaly bred as a family pet that would protect the home/land/family/herd/ranch for any sort of perpetrator...As heroic as that sounds though, they're often just lazy stuborn dumbasses:) Great with kids, and people in general, though they're naturally suspecious towards strangers. Not aggressive in any way, nor easily spooked or scared, but you wouldn't want to seriously provoke a boerboel or do a half-assed job socialising/training it, cause they're powerfull and head strong... So far for my show&tell, procede the bickering:)

Members Josh33
Dont feel like rading through 12 pages... but pitbulls are nice dogs if you raise them right. The breed was previously used for caring over children and were known as "nanny dogs". http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/upshot/pit-bulls-surprising-past-nanny-dogs-195612543.html would i ever get one? no. I just don't think they are pretty dogs. I have two dobermans that look super viscous and could do some serious damage to someone but they are both big sweethearts. Members tattoedsailor
^^ I had two dobermans.. Best damn guard dogs I ever owned. Comparing my PB's to them they're horrible guard dogs. Members houseofglass21
That whole "the owners {censored} them up, they're nice dogs if you raise them right" thing is pretty much a load of BS. There are plenty of stories in the US of people being mauled to death by pit bulls that weren't abused or trained to fight. They are an inherently aggressive breed. Hehe, nah no steroids, just a strict diet of meat, bone, and meat:)Beatiful pb ya got there. A pb would actually have been my first choice if I didn't already have two very young kids, and another terrier. Besides the fact that it's impossible to find a good apbt breeder around these parts of the world. Nothing but game dogs and cross-bred trailer park experiments:s
