Crappiest looking pedal that sounds fantastic.

I've got an MD2. I don't really think anything from that series is especially attractive. Most of that line sounds pretty good, right?

Yeah. I have this delay and the MO-3 octave and the SS-3 sonic shaper. All sound great and are fun but all have pretty fugly housing.

Crappiest Looking Pedal

CRXSH is winning the internets with a picture link to this very thread. Threadception.

I hate everything about how this pedal looks and it set up, but damn if it doesn't sound tasty. Cheap too.

None of the above are guaranteed to sound good: except CRXSH's entry.

I have learned that this is a very popular topic amongst many forums during my search.

Here's my winner:

Big, fugly, overdone category: Damage Control Liquid Blues:

Cheap, fugly, but undeniably awesome for $10: Starcaster Chorus:

I gotta disagree about the Fender Chorus. I bought one of those on clearance and it just sounded like {censored} in comparison to every chorus I've ever played. Also, the switch was a piece of {censored}

What did you use to etch it?

3/2 Muratic Acid/H2O2

Same as I use for etching PCBs.

That {censored} was bubbling/boiling/REALLY HOT.

I was etching it in a plastic container (Potato salad from the Wal-mart deli).

The container was melting.

That {censored} was bubbling/boiling/REALLY HOT. And steaming. Nasty smelling and probably toxic.

The container was melting.

I did all this on the OUTSIDE of the garage.

Haven't tried etching an enclosure since.

But I do plan on trying it again at at some point.

Its all Rick Holt's fault :)

I liked it better than the Boss CH-1 or a vintage MXR unit I have. I like the Guyatone MC-3 more, but it's a different feel and the Starcaster is less noisy than any of the others mentioned. I'm not huge on chorus, but I keep both the Guyatone and Starcaster on the floor. I've heard of QC issues, so maybe I just got a good one.
