WOW!! I'm totally impressed, as always. Great music, everyone!

Here's my .02, recorded with Guild GAD-25:

House of the Rising Sun, by Huddie Ledbetter

Sounds like the file picked up some heavy bass distortion along the path somewhere- what I can hear of your performance sounds cool, but it's hard to hear past the distortion. :(

Here's my rendition of Needle And The Damage Done. I have been playing this song for many many years so the one take part was not difficult. What was difficult is that in all those years I never sang it, I just played the guitar. So here is an attempt by me to both play and sing this classic song.

BTW, Neil Young wrote this about his Crazy Horse bandmate and friend Danny Whitten who became addicted to heroin and was wasting away. Danny was still alive when this song came out. Not too long after he died of overdose. The back story is that Neil had tried to get Danny to rehearse with the band for a tour and he was oo wasted. He had to send Danny home with some money. It is that money that Danny then used to buy his overdose. Neil Young had terrible guilt over that for many years to come.

I hope I did'nt miss anyone so far.

I would like to thank you all for making this a great open mic.

A dream of mine is to be good enough to perform at an open mic LIVE someday, but even if I never get good enough, this is just as good to me, and it inspires me to try and do better.

I'm just a hobbiest and never sang in front of people before, and the feedback that I get realy helps alot.

Thank you all very much.

OK, I am in too. I love recording with the H2 because it is so easy to st up and go! But everytime I listen to it, there is some old guy singing that can't sing anywhere near as good as me!

This is my take on Taj Mahal's version of Giant Step:

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but when I try to listen to your piece, I get it in "extra slow speed". Help! What did I do wrong?

Alcohol, eh? I was planning on doing something else, but I've been dragged back to doing a Tom Waits song. "Jockey Full of Bourbon" recorded in one and only one take right into my minidisc recorder. Let the computer hassles get sorted out in post, ya know?

I LOVE IT !

You kept the tempo even as you belted out those rapid-fire lyrics with ease. Kudos my dear man.

Hey everyone, I just went through all of the contributions. Very nice work, please accept my standing ovation! :D

I'm partial to Bach......keep up the great work Ellen, that piece is a flatpicking monster!!

Garthman, your song has an extra cool vibe about it, something about the sound of that drop tuned nylon string guitar (are you using a pick?) and your voice make for a very interesting piece.

Everyone else.....thanks again for your fine work!! :thu:

I'm staying with a friend whose computer is blocked from youtube, putfile, etc., so I can't listen to anyone's stuff right now (I'll have to wait till I get to work tomorrow).

Anyway, I was able to record on my laptop with my homemade mic and audacity, and ftp my mp3. Martin D12X1. Metallica's The Unforgiven.

here's my rendition of "Try To Remember"

http://media.putfile.com/Try-To-Remember-43

I first heard the song in the mid-late 60's sung by The Brothers Four. Read more about the song here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Try_to_Remember

In my recording, I preface the song with a little warmup ditty I wrote in G major, I think it is an interesting segue into the main melody. You will recognize when Try To Remember starts......it's a slow, lovely melody with a spare and harmonically straightforward supporting line. This was recorded in one take.....couple of missed notes here and there, but overall I think the essence of the song comes through.

I guess it's okay ... some people may appreciate great song choice, incredible feel and flawless execution .... INCLUDE ME AS ONE OF THEM !

This piece humbled me.

Amazing stuff, thank-you :thu:
