I prefer wine red/dark red on plain or slightly figured mahogany or maple.

I'm not huge on overly figured woods, but I love trans black flame or quilt maple tops.

I have too many favorites.

On a Les Paul I like a gold top.
On a PRS or Carvin CT, I like a deep tubular quilt with the high contrast stain and burst finish (yellow to orange to wine red).
On a bolt on Fender-type work horse I like a solid finish.
On a strat I also like the white wash look over ash.
On a semi hollow I like natural or trans orange/yellow.
On an SG I like white with gold hardware.
On a V or Explorer give me natural korina.
I love Ebony boards with abalone inlays.

I like a nice quilt top but I'm partial to classic burst finishes on non figured wood.

I prefer solid colors with binding. Second, I like a solid with some wood grain showing through like on cherry SGs.

Of the guitars that I own, I prefer the very simple, plain one-piece ash top of the Axis Sport. I am very into sunburst finishes with a very gradual fade. This picture really doesn't capture the fade on the Axis. It's a lot like Fender's Sienna burst. Not really black at the edge but reddish brown.



The Monaco is definitely a looker. But I think I'd actually like it better.....



with a plain spruce top and this finish (from Willcutt's site.) I think I'd like the 3X P-90s too! Wish I saw more of these used.

I have no favorites set in stone but right now I'm gassing for a shell pink or shoreline gold strat with a birdseye neck. Also a blue Gibson ES335... or black. I'm not a big fan of quilt, but flame is ok on some guitars.
