  1. What a dumbass. No you are -- as I stated I have no issues what so ever with tattoos, however what he was stating is scientific fact about sterotyping. Take some psychology to understand this, now some of his judgemental views thrown in, yeah its bull{censored}, but the entire thing about stereotyping is is correct. We all stereotype in some way or another, whether its gender, race, religion, dress, style, etc. It helps us make sense of a complex world easier.
  2. thanks to everyone who has responded. i feel a lot more comfortable about my knowledge about this stuff. i am not into it nor would i ever be - i have enough pain in my art without getting physical pain involved for decorating my skin. several of my college friends and many fraternity brothers over the years have gotten tattooed. most of my exposure was on the beach watching some semi-fine ass girl walk by with (what i still think of as) {censored} ME HERE written in some Oriental symbol just above her ass crack. More recently, as some of my exposure has increased to some of the local immigrants, i have notices several women getting their names tattooed on the side or back of their necks. by the way, i've seen ALL of the tattoo fail pics/posters - i collect those demotivational posters and they are the best. i don;t have any particular affinity for or against them. my recent personal experience is at a local block party in the old downtown. i wandered into the popular bar for a water and a very pretty young lady started flirting a little. i flirted back - really intrigued because she had a very cool almost floor length skirt with a long slit down the side. not overtly sexual, really stylish. and very nice legs. after a few minutes, she spun around a little more and i noticed her leg was tattooed wither with a dragon or a snake. very elaborate. started around the ankle and ... well i could see to mid-thigh it was still going strong. i must admit i'm curious about the ending. she's an artist - some sort of glass-blower/sculptor. i hope is see her later in the summer with a little less clothing ... [pix or it didn't happen :poke:
  3. I wasn't judging, just wondering how you're gonna feel about your tats bein all wrinkly and {censored}. Some of my best friends have tats, but they're strategically placed in subtle spots and aren't of skulls or flames or satan or something to try to show the world how badass you are JoJo doesn't have those kind either, in fact he has one of the coolest I've ever seen, a really kick ass guitar amp tube! These Orange pix only tats are kind of cool, something I'd consider, cryptic but meaning to those of us who know what they are:
  4. Ya know man, I was trying to be civil in my response to you, but let me just say, {censored} YOU , you closeminded, judgemental asshole. Post a picture of yourself, let's see what we can find about you that we don't like and discuss it.Different strokes and all that man. I see people everyday that look different from me and I accept them for who they are and don't pre judge them. If you didn't like people with ink , you shouldn't have come in this thread you prejudiced {censored}. Agreed 100% - I personally don't have any and at this point don't think I will, but many of my friends do and I don't think one thing less or more about them, just cool people I prefer to associate with. What I'm not down with really (for me personally) are the people with all the facial and neck tattoos, but again, I have a friend who has several on his face and neck, he will tell ya that he wish he didn't get them but it was something he got in prison and it was more survival. He leaves them there as a reminder as to how good his life is now. But even he will tell you, that it hinders him with certain jobs and it does carry a stigma in society. I think sleeves and arm/body whatever are pretty well accepted. I mentioned earlier about going into the business as an artists, I still think its' a terrible business to get into. It's already over crowded and it's a really hard way to make a living. I know a tattoo artist now who is really struggling with the economy being down and he is good.
  5. My daughter is a recent fine art graduate and having a tough time finding work, or anything that will pay the bills in the art world. At those prices and with the popularity of body art maybe she should look to transferring her skills into a new field. Nooooooooo.. I know several tattoo artists, its hard life man. It's not Kat Von D and all that. And really, even though you all don't think there is, there is still a stigma in society and in your overall earning potential. Not everybody, but in general with fully visible tattoos. And women, just don't do it. Guys its one thing, but women covered in tattoos are going to look horrible once they hit 45 or 50.
  6. I'd agree with you for the most part, but there are exceptions and probably more than I know about --Hughes & Kettner has some amazing stuff. I even like some of the old old Sunn solid state stuff, sounds as good as any tube amp. For home playing, some of those modeling Vox and Tech III amps are great.
  7. Actually THAT'S a great example of "Face." I work in Robotics and have been in auto plants all over the world. Toyota is famous in the industry for doing invisible recalls (I forget the proper term off hand). If you have a Ford, and some part is known to go wrong, they'd send you a letter to bring your car in for a fix. Toyota on the other hand waited until you brought your car in for maintenance, then they'd do the work and you wouldn't know anything about it. Your oil change just took longer and there were three guys doing it... it just auto/prints on the work order. You'd think Ford makes crap because they called your car in for another fix, and Toyotas are great because they haven't. Until the lawsuits start from people who DON'T bring their cars into a Toyota dealer for work... and have been driving around with a known dangerous problem. "Face" doesn't always work. Sometimes you've got to stand up and say, we made a mistake... the Japanese aren't very good at that. It wasn't long ago when they'd kill themself for that kind of thing. P.S. Toyota is Sony in the 90s... in a race to the bottom. You are just so way off, good grief. I worked for Toyota/Lexus for many years - in part and service (fixed operations management in dealerships). Get a clue before you post. This is how stupid {censored} gets propagated. First of all, almost every manufacturer has a warranty item they will replace from time to time, not just Toyota (every time I take my Chrysler in, they have warranty items to fix). You don't know how the auto industry works at all. The problems you call dangerous, the really are not and the instances of it happening are few and far between - let me restate, its dangerous if it occurs, chances of it occuring are minimal. You have more chance of blowing a tire and crashing than this "issue" happening. It's a liability and PR issue plain and simple, and considering we are talking issues that plagued other manufacturers years ago (you really need to understand the historical perspective of the specific warranty issue at hand - remember Audi and a similar problem that followed them for years and years), Toyota is going to pony up and bite the bullet early. A little bad PR and $$ for doing this now beats the hell of a a few people getting killed and having a huge expose' on 60 minutes - that would really kill their leadership position. Their stock took a temporary dive, will recover within a month or two. Don't be fooled, Toyota still makes the best cars on the road and will continue to do so AND will resolve any of the engineering, QA, and production issues. Just like Gibson continues to make some of the nicest guitars out there. I played a few of the new Traditionals last week, very, very, very fine instruments.
  8. Specifically the tele bridge and the neck mini humbucker pickups. Anyone have any experience with them? I had a KA Hot 60s Tele Neck pup in a project that I did few years ago, sounded awesome. I was happy with it. I didn't like the Duncan I had in the bridge though and opted for a GFS Vintage Alnico Tele and was actually super impressed by it.
  9. people are free to love them all they want. I love Epi Casinos, actually. But they also look and feel slightly cheap, and I think those same issues come out more on the LP models. the Japan and USA Epi's are much better guitars. if someone is offended by that, o well. I would venture to say you have a severe case of headstock-itus. Easy to get, difficult to cure. Meaning it is all in the head. Owning both Epis and Gibsons, from a "feel" perspective, there really isn't much difference. Epi's tend to be lighter, not always though. My Epi LP Custom feels no different than most other 60s neck LPs and in fact is about the same weight. Blindfolded, unless you were really familiar with neck profiles, you could not tell which was which. Tone wise, the Gibson will sound fuller for sure and that is where the difference comes in. With electronics upgrades, the difference blurs even more. The real test is when you can actually play them side by side and feel and hear the difference. It's the only way to make an honest and truth grounded opinion. And cheap, just a word for the trollish who don't know how to express themselves - a First Act from Wal-Mart feels cheap. Intro level Ibanez RGs feel cheap meaning less substantial, poor quality finish out, flimsy harware, etc. Epi LP Standards really are far from feeling cheap -- and don't own one. They don't feel cheap and they really do sound pretty good stock these days.
  10. I think its that two neck guitar monstrosity that he plays -- it just screams stupid to me and think a lot of other people. Yeah, its cool the first time you see it, but after a 100 videos of it, it gets kind of old. I do get that he is an excellent player and can hang with the best of them, but I really don't like full on shred much to begin with, no matter who it is. Plus, I don't like his haircut.
  11. Did http://www.jsdguitarshack.com/ ever do a house brand?
  12. If I was in my 20s, I'd probably be all over it. But a guitar with knives in it doesn't suit a 40 year old guy well. I know, I know -- its all about the playing and the tone. But I also don't want to look like a dick on stage, I already look stupid enough as it is and don't need my guitar to perpetuate that image any more.
  13. I played one last year as well, played pretty nice and sounded okay as well. I just couldn't get past the knives as being REALLY gimmicky, give me regular f-holes and I would consider.
  14. Actually every three weeks this pops up. Just get some Lem-Oil and be done with it. Read the directions and it works great. I use Lem on Rosewood and Ebony.
