Members Libertine
A friend of mine really believes that Jack White of the White Stripes and Raconteurs is the greatest guitarist of the young millenium. I know that he was in the top 20 of the Rolling Stones greatest guitarists list, and I have to say I love his wide range of styles. You also have to love his unique guitars, some of which I had never seen before watching him play them. So what do you guys think of his abilities? I personally believe he is a little overhyped, but still great. http://youtube.com/watch?v=pAScaWxLutUhttp://youtube.com/watch?v=03YUgHAshSo

Members hondro
I love Jack White but I wouldn't call him a Guitar Hero Matthew Bellamy is in my top 5 of best guitarists out now
Members cardude6987
He is pretty good. but certainly not the greatest new guitarist. He seems to have a unique style but not the most talented. But if your friend said Derek Trucks is the greatest new guitarist i might agree with him. Members RaVenCAD
I don't dislike him, or the White Stripes.. They've got some cool songs. 7 nation army and Conquest to name just a couple. But to call him "the greatest" is way premature and just flat out wrong.. If you want to talk about guitar players "on the scene" right now, there are tons of people that put him to shame as far as technical guitar playing goes.. And I'm not talking about shred vs. whatever you wanna call his style. John Mayer for example. Sure, he's an idiot, and alot of his songs are utter crap, but get him alone on the guitar and he's magical at times. Kenny Chesney, to name another.. That boy can flat out play some geetar.. Both can play circles around Jack White...
Members 70sstrat
He is verry unique and his style is not for everyone. It all depens on your personal bias. I really like his stuff in the raconteurs but not the white stripes. Personally I think he has good ideas (musically) but there are better players. Members Degalomon666
Best isn't you know.... a subjective term or anything..... Best as in the ability to play with technical mastery of any style of music? or Best as in "holy {censored}ing {censored}, d0000d, this guys riffs rock!" or Best as in....... Members Tweedledee
He coaxes some great tones out of some cheap vintage gear, and he can come up with a great riff, but "greatest guitarist of the 2000s" doesn't seem like a legitimate title for him. Members Senor Cleavage
Jack definitely unique, has very inventive musical ideas. just needs to get a drummer who can play more than quarter notes But she does have a great rack.
Members dixie789456
not by a long shot........john mayer>jack white by a long shot. listen to the john mayer trio. he puts jack to shame.
Members HeatherAnnePeel
I'll take Rich Robinson and Allison Robertson, but they both really came onto the scene in the '90s. Jack is cool, however. He has garnered a lot of respect in a relatively short period, and he seems to know his stuff. There really is no "best", anyway. Members wagdog
I like the White Stripes music... I don't think Jack White is incredibly memorable as a guitar player though. He's good, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't put him in the category of the "greats".
Members gregovertone
dave knudsen from minus the bear is easy the greatest/most innovative guitar player of the 2000's.
Members curseoftruth
Some good riffs, some good songs, some cool gear. Not one of the greatest though. When I think of great, Jack White does not come to mind.
Members Radiohead29
I think he plays what Hendrix would have played had he not died. I've thought that since 2002. If Hendrix was alive......he would use a Digitech Whammy!
Members warlockking
no, not one of the greats not even close, he could be someday though, if he keeps at it.
Members rgb338
yesterday i suggest to my band that we pick out a the black keys song for our lineup. Bass player asked(obviously never listened to either band), 'isn't the black keys the gay version of the white stripes?'I asked, 'aren't bass players the gay version of guitar players?' If you're 29-years-old you are officially too old for 'gay'
