      That looks elegant.

I can't believe people here are suggesting carrying a 2lbs blade around with them.
Are you ****************ing killing bears for fun with that thing?!

I wanted one of these when I was a kid but as soon as I seen Predator, i wanted the machete that Sonny Landham carries instead.

One of the Nepal import ones. I think the website is himalayan imports. (im on my.phone right now and too last to check). Handmade by kamis in the blades country of origin. I'm looking I'm the $120-$180 range, and not just limited to that company. Recommendations?

HI is a good company but they have had some recent tempering problems, you can read up on them at bladeforums.com. There are a few others out there as well including Khurki House and such. I dont have any experience with either of them myself but when i buy a Kukri itll probably be an AngKhola in the 18" range from Khurki House.

I can't believe people here are suggesting carrying a 2lbs blade around with them.

I picked it as an example because its one of my heavier blades. In my case the Golok is used because i have to literally cut trails thru my heavily wooded land when i walk it and the Golok does far better than any machete ive ever used.

I wouldnt personally, it has numerous choppers but not a real good sheath knife. I do have the Parang though and while its handle is one of the nicer ones ive used ive been less than impressed with the blade itself. In fcat the only real use im getting out of it is the sheath which is currently hauling around my Golok.

The only thing I'd want out of there is the Machete. Maybe the axe but the little hatchets they sell in the camping section at Walmart has never let me down and it only costs about 7 bucks.

                          • Mine never left my side during my week in the Latvian countryside.
Good size blade, perfect curve, nice handle. It coped with everything I could throw at it.

When in urban areas, I took it off my belt and clipped it to the inside of my cargo pocket on my right leg. Nice and out of the way and not going to get me in trouble, but there if I needed it.

In a First World country I would never carry more than this:

If you need a bigger blade than this to open boxes and such, you're doing it wrong!

                              • That was some hench knowledge.

Also, can I add: Everything in a plastic bag.

Line the inside of your rucksack with a big garden bin bag and then put all your underpants in a small bag, all your socks in one and certainly your sleeping bag in one or even two. Etc etc.

It may seem like a pain or even silly for one night away but if you get into the habit of doing it firstly packing will become therapeutic, secondly even if you drop your bag in a big puddle for a second, you know it's safe.
With the packing technique described, you should be able to fall in a river and have the contents of your pack come out dry.
