  1. Heaven and Hell was 32 years ago. How is that an example? My point wasn't to compare Hendrix with Clapton in terms of their playing ability. My point is, show me a guitarist/singer/songwriter who has remained relevant for the past 40+ years. History does not support the romanticized vision that if Hendrix were alive today that he'd still be cranking out music that anyone gives a {censored} about. Yes he was talented, yes he was an innovator, yes he wrote a {censored} ton of great songs in a short period of time. But time marches on and people age, and rock music typically belongs to the young. Hendrix was not special enough to trancend that fact. His death while still at his best indelibly stamped his genious upon rock music for all time. I believe that had he lived, he would not have had any more longevity than anyone else from his era. History just doesn't support it. Yes, there'd be baby boomers lining up to see sold out shows at $100+ a seat, but would that have more to do with reliving their youth or seeing an artist that still made music that mattered? Sadly, we'll never know. Not the Black Sabbath album the actual band called Heaven and Hell which was Iommi/Dio/Butler/Appice which was as slvrsrpnt mentioned came out in 2009. Iommi is basically Black Sabbath and has remained fairly relevent over the years along with literally creating an entire genre. As for if Hendrix lived i really dont know. He was very creative and innovative so maybe he would have continued to do so over the years. Whether or not we would have seen a disco or nu-metal album by him or something totally different i cant really say. He pushed the boundries of the technology back then, whos to say he wouldnt have continued barring drug use frying his brain etc?
  2. I know it's blasphemy to say anything remotely bad about Hendrix, but I would disagree. Clapton is a singer/songwriter as well, he's from the same era, and he hasn't written anything of substance in years. He has continued to recycle his past hits with whatever flavor of the month phenom is hot at the moment. The only singer/songwriter/guitarist I can think of from that era that has even remotely remained relevant (writing new material that people want to hear) has been Neil Young, and that may be a stretch. It's hard for any performer to continue to be relevant for very long. I don't think a living breathing Hendrix in 2012 would be any different. Clapton is, was, and always will be about half the musician Hendrix was with about a third of the creativity. Hendrix literally defined what we do on guitar to this day. Clapton was basically a guy who played blues when it got popular again and now plays basically elevator music. I love Cream but not because of what Clapton did. As for musicians around that era doing relevent stuff now Tony Iommi/BlackSabbath comes to mind with Heaven and Hell which was a fantastic cd/band for the short time it was around.
  3. All of these are possibilities... Do you get migraines? I sometimes smell burning popcorn before getting one even if its not there.
  4. So many good deals out there now - you think the retailers are worried about the future of the economy and trying to move some stock?? Not 100% sure but around this time businesses have to pay their quarterly taxes so it could be that.
  5. Best Buy is having a midnight sale and there's some musician-related items in it: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/regularCat%3Apcmcat242800050022/regularCat%3Apcmcat242800050022/pcmcat242800050022.c?id=pcmcat242800050022 Hmm too bad the $49 crown power amp isnt available anywhere near me, or the 3 buck condensor mics. In fact anything i want to get isnt available for shipping and isnt anywhere near me. Killer sale though, thanks for posting it.
  6. maybe he did, and maybe he didn't. but his long-time girlfriend... a BLACK woman... the woman who's in the hendrix documentary in her back yard and she's talking about her relationship with him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBCsVNg5QVI and she's like "yeah, jimi brought home this little kitten that he found on the street, and i took a can of tuna fish from my mom's cabinet" "and my moms got all hung up and yelled GET THAT CAT OUTTA HERE ... and we all went out... " well that same woman went on to say about Hendrix's drug use that... and i will paraphrase what here original statement was: "... Jimi was like ... he wasn't affected by drugs the way the rest of us were .... like if we did a hit of acid, then Jimi would have to do 3 hits of acid, just to get the effect... and then if he did any more, then he would just come full circle to being Jimi Hendrix again... " no, what does that tell you? combined with all of the songs, interview quotes, letters, and other writings about "... space creatures... and even space PEOPLE?!?!... " and hendrix on a number of occasions in interviews "claimed" that he "remembered CLEARLY" his past lives on other planet... namely the planet that IS NOW THE ASTEROID BELT!!! and he said he remembered how his planet was destroyed. and that NASA (nazi) would "... find memorandums on the moon..." google that: "memorandums on the moon" and "hendrix" so... Ok seriously WTF. Either this is something profound or diarrhea of the brain and im really leaning towards the latter.
  7. If wood was as prone to warping and twisting as many people seem to believe, historic buildings and antique furniture would look like they were designed by architects and carpenters from Whoville. Wood used for framing is nailed to so many things that it doesnt twist too badly and wood used for trim or decorative is usually sealed, painted, stain or something.
  8. So im basically looking for a 3 channel high gain amp, but im open to other offers if you've got something interesting. We can also work out a deal if you just want to buy, but trade is prefered. DW 1x12 Thiele cab loaded with EVM12L-i have two of these, also in very good cosmetic condition. Both are covered with greyish ratfur and both are loaded with Evm12l's. Very loud for a 1x12 and can handle 200w and loads of bass. Dano-wah- Cool looking wah, sorta looks like an old hotrod complete with headlights taillights and such. has 6 different wahs 3 60's flavored ones and 3 70s flavored ones. also has onboard distortion and octave down FX. Blackheart Little Giant- Has been retubed for a heavier darker sound with JJ tubes. In very good cosmetic condition as well. Squire Fat Strat- Its a Standard series Black and Chrome model which isnt made anymore. Black with a mirrored pickgaurd and loaded with a Dimarzio Air Zone in the bridge and a Dimarzio Chopper in the neck. Has a good neck and has been set up. Squire Telecaster Custom- Its black and loaded with a GFS ProTube in teh neck and an Artec Railbucker in the bridge. Also has a new much better IMO Mighty Mite bridge. Its a very nice guitar and f i didnt have the p-90 equipped one that i liked better i'd keep it.
  9. 4. BARGAIN. This is an odd amp that is not well known or popular. Offer less than they are asking, and show them a fistfull of cash when you do it. Walk if they say no, "no big deal." I bet you get it. Its only been there for a bit so i think ill wait awhile and see if they'll deal. Another note, for that kind of cake I would just hold out and find a "real" pre-magnavox or real early magnavox ampeg. If you look long enough you can usually find any of the V series amps(V4,V2 or combo versions Vt22,vt40) for around that price. Ive been wanting a V4 for quite awhile, thats actually the reason why i took an interest in the v7 in the first place. I'm not gonna pay $450 for it anyway, ill let it sit in the store for a little while and offer less, or maybe even throw in some gear im not using. Thanks to both of you for the info, its much appreciated.
  10. So why is it someone posts about it and i reply with a question and they never return? Is it my breath???
  11. Well... I paid $200 for mine, but it came without power tubes. I also don't have a footswitch. This amp is pretty loud and has a great low end if you like stoner rock/ doom kinda tones. I have actually used this as a bass head a few times with good results. The treble can get kinda hairy when it's cranked and the mids have a tendency to get a little skronky. lol... Wow someone actually has one of these! So, do you think it would cover the ranges that a RedBear does?
  12. Kind of an oddball, it seems, made during the post-Magnavox era by MTI. Never seen one myself. Some info here : (note the page arrows) http://books.google.com/books?id=O36...um=8&ct=result The power amp section looks pretty ordinary, a quartet of 6550 tubes for 100w. THe switchable output impedance is pretty unique. Hard to say whether you will get much grinding distortion from it, it was a new design for the early 80s. Cool, info! Much appreciated. good luck finding any info on this... Yeah im getting that. So far beyond what was just posted ive found nothing of note.
  13. Can you tell me anything about it besides buy it now?
  14. So i came across an Ampeg V7 head in fair condition and im curious about it. I didnt have a chance to plug it in today unfortunatly, but id like some info on em. Are they anything like the v4's? Also they wanted $450, is that a good price?
  15. Ive got a blackheart as well. Ive also got a RFX200s thats the best stereo chorus amp ive ever heard or played.
