Oh common. How many people know what the {censored} that means guys. I think your being a tad harsh.

I could say that to my wife and she would say "um, is that good?".

I think the "for advanced audiophiles only" statement leans towards "most people have no clue what the {censored} that means".

Advanced audiophiles?!

you know, the ones who already have $6000 directional o2 free speaker cables (zip cord in fact), $175 power outlets, and monster interconnects.

and $500 wood knobs for the power amp. those people.

maybe they should be shot?

I think the irony there is that only "advanced audiophiles" would know that that means "regular ol' CD quality".

I think the bigger issue here is the clever use of the net to promote the tour, and encourage you to send the file to friends.

They're playing in my area in May, and if I'm around, I'm going...my daughter likes JA and I'm into NIN, so it should be fun.

Ehh, I disagree. I'm not down with the disingenuous use of the term "advanced audiophiles" to describe the larger cross-section of the population called "people who don't want their music to sound like absolute dog{censored}". When in fact those are two quite different subsets of the population.

Maybe what's being overlooked is that normally because of file sizes, the crappy mp3 format is the only thing available for download.

In that context a 16bit 44.1Khz wave file really would be audiophile quality.

Sure it's the standard CD format but when have you ever downloaded a CD from the internet?

Based on that argument, I think that's a given. Downloaded songs are universally known for their poor sound quality. The real issue here is pushing 44.1/16 as "audiophile quality".
