Members Coolie No.1
Here is the guitar I am planning to get. Ibanez AS73. The pickups are fine but hot, so I am going to get a pair of something like SD 59s and installs them with new pots etc. I may get a good quality Kit from RS guitars. I see that the lower knob is very reachable but the other 3 are not. Any tips hits would be appreciated or else I will take it to the shop. Are the charges for semi hollow more than a regular solidbody?
Members Will Chen
Way, way harder than on a solid body. Looks like Ibanez has a wider F-hole so you might be able to get to it that way but the traditional method is to remove the bridge pickup and there should be a route to pull the controls throu there. You have to tie strings to all the pots then unscrew them and pull them though the cavity...
Members mrbrown49
Get some wire and bend it to make a hook. That will help you fish them out. Tie some dental floss on the shafts first, and maybe tie something like a popsicle stick to keep it from falling in. This will help you get the pots back in. Members roygbiv
Floss your teeth. Then floss your pots. Time consuming, but not difficult.
Members spanishfly47.5
I've been wondering the same thing.would it be much more difficult on this:
Members Guitar Heel
It is a very significant pain in the ass. I do 90% of the electrical work on my guitars, but I take hollowbodies straight to the shop.

Members BG76
Go over to mojotone.com there is a video that explains what you have to do. If you have an el cheapo and put good pots in it chances are you're going to have to enlarge the holes in your guitar for the new pots to fit. Members tartanphantom
forget the dental floss. Vinyl tubing is your friend. Take a look at this link: replacing a wiring harness with vinyl tubing You can use aquarium tubing to remove/replace all switches & pots easily. Members Electric Blues
If you just splice the new pups in, it's very easy. If you want to do it the right way and go ahead and change all electronics while you're at it, it's a bit time consuming but not really hard at all. Members tlbonehead
It really isn't too tough. Just takes a little longer and a little more patience.
