Members GAS Man
On the Standards, I prefer the Ebony. Just pure sex. On the '61, HC, but with that big black pg on the Std, ebony is my fave.
Members GAS Man
Cherry shows beautiful woodgrain Ebony's trying to hide something.... I get that thinking, but on the other hand, no one ever looks at a Steinway piano in lacquer black and wonders what they are trying to hide. Check out this relatively rare critter I bought for my son some time ago. That's an Epi Elitist. And even with the small pg on that guitar, the lacquer black still looks pretty sweet. But normally, I'd say HC on the small pg SGs, but I still like the looks of ebony on that guy.

Members nighthawk15
Cherry just seems right on an SG for some reason. Besides, black is interesting enough to keep looking decent when its poly, so I can only imagine how much fun it is to take care of black nitro:eek:

Members Cats-o-caster
Vote for cherry, it DOES look right on SG. And this one:
Members blind radish
I say that the natural burst vs. cherry is the hardest choice ... I made mine
Members GreaserMatt
I love the black, but a cherry one was my second guitar ever; I basically learned to play on one. I gotta go w/ cherry... trying to trade an old V4 for one right now dammit...
Members BG76
White or Pelham Blue would be better choices I would say cherry given what you posted

Members bluesnapper
I've got an ebony SG. I like it - although I bought it used so didn't have much choice on the colour. I've half a mind to get a white pickguard and zebra pickups - just because I like things to stand out and look a bit garish.
Members guitarman3001
I picked ebony. Might change my mind tomorrow but if I had to buy one right now it would be ebony.

I do like black SG's and black guitars in general. But too much time goes into polishing. I wanna play, not polish.
Members Guitar Heel
I say that the natural burst vs. cherry is the hardest choice ... I made mine And as much as I love my Cherry Classic I bought from you, I prefer either white or black for a Standard.
Members Hozze
Cherry. With the black pickguard it's just the right mix of rough yet elegant.
Members csm
And as much as I love my Cherry Classic I bought from you, I prefer either white or black for a Standard. White is for Customs. Specials and Standards should be cherry. Juniors can be either white or cherry. END OF. And can we have a 'large or small pickguard' choice? The small '61-style original 'guard is Da Wun.
Members ermghoti II
Cherry is the correct answer. This is why Ebonys go for $100-200 less on the used market, despite costing the same new.

Members etawful
I kind of dig walnut: See here: http://www.sheltonsguitars.com/2008/7-22-08/gibson-sg-special-walnut-7-22-08.html But, I'd rather have it with small pickguard.
