Members Jazz Ad
Lots of things in science are settled. That's why we have the word "axiom" in our language. The word "theory" is behind "Global Warming."An axiom isn't settled. It's admitted, not demonstrated and true only until somebody can prove it wrong. Members hawkhuff
We think we know the shape of the earth and how it travels. We think we know how the atom bomb works. If we are closed off to ever revising our understanding of those phenomenon, we have shut out scientific inquiry. +1The global warming debate is closed if you understand it from the perspective of the enviros. After all the 'research' and empirical information has been collected and 'evaluated', it is now a closed issue and has become a matter of faith (dogma) to the enviros just as man and his activities are separate from Earth and that evolution is fact. There are many who now live these ideas and it now treated as a matter of fact for the leftist news media (ABD, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, etc.) and any kind of nature programming. These ideas are, in fact, subject to scrutiny so long as the foundation of the existing 'consensus' is not threatened. If it is (the results turn out to be contrary) then you and/or your research is excoriated then ignored.Sounds like a near religious faith doesn't it? It is, it's the religion of socialism. Members hawkhuff
I'm not sold on Global woarming, or the polar ice cap melting thing, but......Can anyone tell me the downside of decreasing pollution, concerving energy and curbing the worlds dependance on Fossil Fuels?Seems like, to me, Whether Global Warming is true or not, the things they are asking us to do are ok............The globe is apparently warming, I don't think there is much debate on that. The big debate (and sham) is that humans are the cause. IMO, there is no downside to decreasing pollution, conserving energy and curbing the worlds dependence on Fossil Fuels but that's not the issue. It's about more government control over your life; how much food you should eat, how much electricity you should use, what kind of vehicle you should drive, etc.

Members Emprov
I want to know what's happening with the thinning ozone layer. 12 years ago we were all going to die because of widening holes at the poles, (our fault). Now, it seems that there's so much ozone in the atmosphere that it's interfering with plants ability to produce O2. I know absolutely nothing about this but I'm interested....not interested enough to Google but still....
Members Crescent Seven
Global warming is for filthy atheist hippy communists What pisses me off most is the environment becoming a political issue. We've been destroying our planet long enough. It's time we started taking better care of our home, it's the only one we have. {censored} politics for getting in the way of what's fundamentally most important. I agree, except that it has to become political for the biggest changes to be made. Especially when you have environmental groups calling for broad brush changes to industry, things that only laws are going to effect. The problem with that is, if the science being used to convince Congress to act against industry is in dispute (which the AGW science very much is), then it can't be acted upon by government because it could potentially damage the economy, all to appease a group of people that believe the sky is {censored}ing falling, or at least want you to believe it is so they can keep getting fat government subsidies and grants. What pisses me off is that the Al Gore camp and other enviro groups are essentially trying to shanghai the American people with scare tactics, and it's working, even though the science is bunk in the majority of cases. Until Al Gore agrees to have a televised series of debates with him and his scientists against a consortium of scientists with dissenting opinions on the matter, I refuse to believe his rhetoric, and I'll continue to oppose the legislation they are trying to force {censored} through Congress. In the meantime, I'll continue riding the bus to work, recycling paper and aluminum, filling my gas tank at night, and carpooling.C7
Members hawkhuff
And apparently from yours, as well.WTF?? I agree the global temperature is increasing. There is ample evidence to demonstrate this to be true. Where there is no evidence is that human activity is the sole cause and that it is irreverible therfore, catastrophe is right 'round the corner. That is utter nonsense. We added catalytic converters to reduce certain emissions whilst upping the CO2 output because CO2 wasn't a "pollutant" back then. Stop global warming? Rip out your catalytic converter. In geological terms, anyway.Therein lies the fallacy. Carbon dioxide is less than .5% of the atmospheric gases and it is naturally occurring. There is far more water in the atmosphere (also a greenhouse gas) than carbon dioxide. I recall reading one scientist use the analogy and I have used it when teaching my chemistry classes. If you're car isn't running right but instead of focusing on the engine and the transmission you decide to focus on a single lug nut on the rear wheel. This makes no sense. Well, the car is the planet and its atmosphere the engine the Sun, the transmission the water vapor, and the lug nut is the CO2.

Moderators ThudMaker Posted August 10, 2007 Moderators Share Posted August 10, 2007 Rich folks' $$$$ That's funny, since the democrat representatives and senators average a higher personal wealth than their republican counterparts.
