Oh for the chance to read Lot 49 for the first time again. ED, have you read any other Pynchon? I also finished Against The Day recently and I'd agree: not quite GR, but taken on its own merits an extraordinary experience. Reviews seemed to focus on the plot and the madcap Pynchonian elements, but I'd be happy to read another thousand pages just for the pleasure of his prose.

Now reading DFW, Consider The Lobster and George Saunders, In Persuasion Nation.

I've just started re-reading Northern Lights by Philip Pullman.
(I believe it was called The Golden Compass in the USA).

Next I plan to re-read The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.
Then more Edgar Allan Poe or start either some H.P. Lovecraft or C.S. Lewis.

*Edgar Allan Poe's complete works. (my favorite writer from English Literature).

*"The Art of War"

and

*The Tao of Jet Kune Do

And the usual musical stuff;

*The craft of musical composition by Hindelmith

as well as some orchestration book, and a plethora of books in 20th century harmony and tonal organization.
