:thu::thu::thu::thu: on Go-Gos, Thompson Twins, Boomtown Rats, The Waitresses (I know what boys like) and Romeo Void. I don't remember Captain Sensible, but now I want to check it out. I already had Gary Numan in the list, but I love his stuff up through the Dance album, so more the better.

I also forgot to add the Eurythmics. I just added it to my list.

Which Thompson Twins song? "Hold Me Now" seems an obvious choice, though not necessarily the best.

Good call on the Joe Jackson!

The Vapors were already in my list. That was one of the first songs I thought of. When I was 11 I used to jump around playing air guitar to that song like a nutcase, never knowing that I was rocking out to a song about masturbation
:o
I still think the riffs and solo are brilliant
:rawk:

hahaha, me too....I loved that song so much at the time! I love the slower bit in the middle...I can't believe I was there singing 'no sex, no drugs, no wine, no women" at that age!!

ABSOLUTELY essential IMHO.
:)

Yes!!! Awesome!! Power Pop in the late 70's/early 80's was taut, punchy, and catchy.

Which reminds me of some others ( I wish there was vid for The Greg Kihn Band's "The Breakup Song."

very cool list, glad to see old school goth bands on the list, Dan Ash of Bauhaus and John Valentine Carruthers of Siouxsie were awesome players, also don't forget Pornography by The Cure, IMO the best album of the 80s. I just finished writing a book on goth music and England in the 1980s.

It will be available from UMI Research press in about two months. The Music of Goth: Postmodernism and Aesthetics.

It has lots of musical analysis but its not a dry academic book, at least I hope people don't think so. I interviewed many musicians such as Mr and Mrs Fiend from Alien Sex Fiend and former members of Fields of the Nephilim and Play Dead. It demonstrates that these musicians really were using traditional gothic strategies and were amazing players. Dan Ash sadly did not reply to my interview requests.
